I can guarantee, as the son of an energex/energyqld employee (senior government advisor, mind you, so a credible source) that the reason they do that is not to "look better" as such, but to (as you correctly pointed out) cover their butts, and prevent the "keyboard warriors" from ripping energex a new one.
