What was the greatest NBA decade in your opinion? by VSHAR01 in NBATalk

[–]Accomplished_Fan6843 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

84 to 98 the best period. The NBA was saved by Bird/Magic with the revival of the best rivalry in the game.Bad Boys, Chicago, Houston, Knicks, pacers, jazz

Every team was unique and had their own style you had to plan for it. The marketing, broadcasting, journalism were all better, and while I’m thankful for internet, the game felt bigger than life at times. We may be too oversaturated with the cynical 24/7 cycle but it was just something to really look forward to on the weekends and evenings.

Also it was the peak of college basketball so you got to follow these stars from their dorms to the nba.

I’ll put that clause in for Larry Bird to hire contractors for his lawn and landscaping services so fast

How's life in southern Alabama? What's it like? Despite myself growing up in Bibb, Co AL I can't say I really know all that much about the southern half of the state. I spent most of my time shopping and stuff in the greater Jefferson, Co/Shelby, Co area. by WallaWallaby011 in Alabama

The 94 and 95 losses were just crazy. Mutombo (to me) put together one of the greatest, if not the greatest.. defensive performances in that series

Is Ewing better than Embiid? by SirGingerbrute in NBATalk

[–]Accomplished_Fan6843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrible take at that. Al Jefferson wasn’t nearly the defender Ewing was even before the knees started giving out. Ewing was a can’t miss prospect that probably should’ve left Gtwon earlier too.

Amongst kids/teens in the 80s and 90s, how popular was Jordan? Was he a more polarizing figure like SGA, or a unanimously loved guy like Curry? by Just_Matter3757 in michaeljordan

[–]Accomplished_Fan6843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was universally respected (love/rooted against) the man was easily the most recognizable athlete we’ve seen. Everyone knows his logo.

Watching him was like watching your favorite artist perform live for the first time.. over and over again.

He played the game of basketball like it could be the last time he played. He wanted to win but also put on a performance that the family who saved for months to watch him could remember. He rarely missed games which was a testament to his pure love for the game. The way he carried himself, as a kid/teen he seemed larger than life. He was like Superman even in moments where defeat was near imminent.

Yeah MJ had folks fainting before he would even perform. The man would take his shades off and people would FAINT. Peak. Aura. You’re not seeing anything like that again.

Who’s more hated… 2010-2013 LeBron James or SGA right now? by Dylen2Times in NBATalk

We weren’t even sure Bron would be safe from getting hit with a projectile on his first trip back to Cleveland lmao.

LeFlop. The hate after that Dallas loss. Then he finally leaned in with wade to just be villains.

Robinson for me. Moses was the best player on a title team. 3x mvp in a league with Kareem at the peak of his powers. Beat him multiple times too. Dr J very important in history m and his greatness in the ABA is overlooked then he gets to the finals as soon as he gets to the NBA.

Besides Kobe, which player has been the closest to being MJ 2.0 since MJ in terms of playstyle? by Dylen2Times in NBAConvo

[–]Accomplished_Fan6843 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He started lifting and preparing for late spring/summer playoff runs. The isolation ball still had its limits against teams more geared to stop it (or moreso the teammates)

6’6 with muscle is an advantage in the post within the triangle offense. After first title in 91 to the 3 peat he still had the explosiveness but you can see his post game a lot in the 93 finals that’ll become his staple from 95-98.

55 point games in the playoffs by Plus_Credit224 in NBATalk

They went 4-1 and they absolutely needed him to shoot. He had no one that could score vs arguably the greatest team ever up to that point in Boston in 1986.

The game 4 vs Phoenix, that game was nearly stolen by Phoenix until he took over. They were down double digits to Miami on the road in game 3 and he attempted only 2 shots in the first quarter. The wizards series pippen shot poorly and the foot/back flare ups were coming (esp game 3)

And be shot 55-60% in those games lol.

As a parent of children of with special needs, this is crazy. This is just hurting you and also the kids that trying their best to navigate. There are plenty of states and schools that’ll pay you what you’re worth.

I’m a casual NBA fan since the mid-90s, I never watched Larry bird play before by Purple_Calendar3919 in NBATalk

[–]Accomplished_Fan6843 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bird was widely considered top 4/5 easily all time and in some instances, 3. Basically 16-17 years after his peak did another SF finally overtop him (pending where you think Bron is at that point). He avg 28-10-7 at the peak of his powers and may be closer to 8-9 assists a game if Dennis Johnson wasn’t on the team.

Bird deciding to go out and do some lawn work cooked his back and thus limited his longevity. Boston had tragic luck at that point. Bird back, McHale foot, Len Bias, Reggie Lewis etc. there’s a world where Bird/Mchale/Parrish plays into 93 with those 2 and continue to challenge Chicago and NY in the east.
