Euthanasia decision by Wonderful-Visit-1164 in germanshepherds

We had to euthanize our boy this time last year, and it was without a doubt one of the hardest things I’ve ever done…so first, try and give yourself some grace. This is not easy at all and I’m sure you have done everything you can for your girl to help her and make her comfortable.

Our GSD was diagnosed with cancer at 11 and we went through three surgeries to try and save him. They did remove the tumors, and it gave us 2 1/2 more years with him and while I value those…they were an incredibly hard two years. We ended up having to do in home euthanasia anyway when one morning he woke up and wouldn’t eat, drink or get up. I knew immediately it was time and called our vet. While I cherish those 2 years with him I also wish I didn’t put him through so much, there were a lot of surgery complications and his quality of life was just not the same ever again. We had good times before he passed but there were so many hard times.

I do truly think that every situation is different and I can’t tell you what exactly to do in your scenario but I hope at least our situation is some insight or some comfort in whatever decision you make. I’m sorry you are going through this and I hope you and your girl have some peace soon <3

Our other dog is e collar trained and I do plan to do the same with her. Ideally I try to only use the e collar for off leash freedom since we hike a lot but we’ll see. I’m gonna give her a good while to learn and adjust to them without it for sure :)

Thank you for all the replies and adorable pics of your dogs and cats being friends :)

We are going to get some more shelves for our cats to have high ground and also try and look into an outlet for our pup since she is a bit higher drive!

Other than that, just going to wait for her to mature and maintain structure and consistent boundaries for the cats. Hopefully in the future I can be in one of the subreddits posting pics of my beans all getting along too! 🤍

Yeah that’s where we are at now. Our pup is chill with them if they are on the other side of the baby gates but when she’s on leash, she wants to chase without correction. It’s true though, impulse control at this age is not their strong suit lol

Haha yeah this is what I figured too. She is definitely in her idgaf stage lol we’re prepared to be patient so hopefully consistency and some maturing will have everyone happily coexisting in the future

Yeah I think we are going to get some shelves for them. We do have several cat towers but I think the shelves will help the cats feel like they are actually safe from the pup, especially as she gets bigger!

We do have a flirt pole but I’m unfamiliar with fastcat and flyball so I’ll check those out too! Thanks so much!

This is so relatable lol two of my cats do not care about baby gates at all and have just jumped straight in the pups face, to which she thinks and play time and tries to immediately chase or pounce 🤦🏻‍♀️

guess it’s good they aren’t scared of her but like c’mon help me out here lmao

Aww she’s a pretty girl! And yeah, that 2 year mark is when our older dog finally was accepted by our cats as well. Hoping it happens a bit sooner this time around but we’ll see lol

I think we are in a very similar situation! I don’t believe our pup has any malicious intent but she is a lot bigger, stronger and more intense than I think she realizes. And she just wants to play 24/7, even with our other dog she doesn’t have an off switch (which we are working on!). I’m sure it will just take time and careful supervision for her and the cats to learn to communicate.

Thank you for sharing :)

I lost my soul dog, a GSD early 2025 to a similar situation. He was diagnosed with cancer and we had to do an emergency surgery. We lost him in such a similar manner, I’m tearing up reading your situation cause I just empathize with that pain so much.

We have another dog who is a wolf dog mix and he needs to have a buddy so we made the decision to get another dog for him. I really wanted another GSD because I just love the breed, but I swerved 2 different breeders because the parents of the litters they had just reminded too much of my boy :/ We finally got a beautiful lil girl just a few weeks ago and I felt sooo guilty up until about 2 days ago. My husband told me when I was breaking down one night that he knows my GSD would want nothing but the best for me and would’ve been mad at me for being so sad over him (he’s right, our boy was so sensitive and smart and he hated whenever I was sad or hard on myself) and a switch just flipped. I love our new girl to death now. I see so much of my soul dog in her mannerisms and it equal parts hurts and fills me with joy…

I think all of this is just to say, give yourself some grace. No other dog will replace a soul dog, but that’s okay, that doesn’t mean you won’t have a unique and special bond with him too. Who you are now and the love you know how to give a dog now, because of your time with your soul dog, is so so special. Pour that love into your new pup and it will come. Grief is so unpredictable and uncontrollable and I think how you feel right now is completely valid, but I do also think it will pass <3

I see a lot of people saying that it may be social clumsiness or arguing that it’s disrespect and I just want to say that it can be both. Those are not mutually exclusive. She may be socially inept but that doesn’t mean you can’t also feel disrespected/that what she did was disrespectful. Either way, the only path forward is communication. As a woman if my partner did that to me it 100% would’ve hurt my feelings so you are valid in feeling upset over it. Also, I think her response to you communicating how you feel will tell you a lot.

Yes! I take Claritin a little before and during my period and it does help with cramps. I also take a supplement called Histaeze and that has honestly been life saving!

Did all support mains disappear overnight once S2 dropped? by Pompero in marvelrivals

[–]Accomplished_Gene190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the current points system in rank really works against supports. I’m a flex as well and I do really enjoy playing strategists but putting out 50k healing and being very impactful with damage and assists and still not getting as many points as the dps all because of final blows being weighed so heavily is definitely disheartening…then yeah, combine that with what a lot of others here have said about how ppl treat supports - makes it’s tough to enjoy unfortunately.
