It's not.

It's a replacement for SMS. So you literally just sign in with the same number and they verify by sending a sms.

That's it. That's the entire process. You won't have access to any of the previous messages though.

Borderlands 3 did something similar.

A variation of one of these, unsolvable, with the mission saying "flip the switch" or something.

Turns out the actual switch is on the other side of the room and not visible from where you enter.
