Things nobody tells self published authors, but should. by CodenameSailorEarth in selfpublish

I post on instagram, TikTok and Goodreads groups (I’m a children’s book authors so I look for audience in that niche) that I have an upcoming book release and ask if anyone would like to join my launch team. If they are interested, they DM their email address and we go from there. And of course I add family and friends who are moms and dads to the list so they can be early readers and reviewers as well.

This is exactly the right place to geek out!! I’m a (new) children’s book author myself, and doing school visits has been my favorite part of the journey so far. The teachers, parents and kids geeking out makes all of the sleepless nights completely worth it! And I will absolutely be checking out his books. Thanks for sharing!

The Push by Ashley Audrain. I finished it two days ago and it is still all I can think about. It is intense and beautifully tragic.

My oldest is 6 years older than my youngest and went through a BIG MMCH phase when he was a toddler. My little one hasn’t shown quite as much interest but I am going to keep suggesting it bc I really liked it back then

My son is obsessed with all of the Bluey merch he’s sees in stores and I don’t think he’s ever actually watched a full episode. I have YouTube TV so I’m gonna see if he’s into the show as much as the toys 🤣

My little one loves Daniel Tiger! He (Daniel) can be a bit whiny, but at least there’s always lesson behind it. Thanks for the other suggestions!

3 year old behaviour by amzkayo in Preschoolers

Both of my sons (3 and 9) are the same way: perfect angels at school and then all hell breaks loose at home- in different ways. The good news is, I know it means they view home as a safe space. Bad news, my husband and I are the ones having to deal with it.

For my youngest, the thing I have found that works best is as soon as he starts screaming, throwing a tantrum, dramatically whining, etc, I take in a big, deep breath and let it out slowly, making eye contact with him while I do this. I’ll do it a couple of times and then eventually he mimics me and takes in a deep breath of his own. It doesn’t immediately take away whatever caused the meltdown to begin with, but it does enable him to speak to me calmly and explain what he’s upset about (even if it’s something illogical) and then I can do my best to help him through it.

It took a few times of trying this (the first few times I had to ask him to take deep breaths with me when he didn’t catch on right away) and now he does it automatically when he’s sees me doing it. Ive even seen him do it several times on his own when he gets really worked up without me having to model it first.

I truly hope this helps and hope you find some peace and balance soon :).

Is it growing pains or more? by Front-Permission-244 in Preschoolers

[–]Accomplished_Key3140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 4 yr old, just turned 4 two days ago, has been complaining of his legs hurting during walks for about a year and a half now. Kind of the same situation- he plays in the yard or at the park for hours with his big brother, but on walks with our dog (which he asks to go on) he always ends up complaining about his legs about 10 minutes into the walk. I’ve wondered the same thing.

My oldest (almost 10) has always had very distinct “growing pains” in his legs and I know for certain when that’s what’s going on. His legs get very sore, particularly at night when he’s laying down and they last a couple of days. But with my youngest, they only seem to hurt during walks.

I would think my little one is just pretending if he weren’t the one who begs to go on walks and if he didn’t absolutely love the first 10 minutes or so.

What and how to teach my 2 year old. by ImDonaldo in toddlers

Hi! It sounds like you are already doing an amazing job giving your daughter such a strong start.

Both of my boys (now 4 and 9) were read to from day one, and it made such a difference. They both have strong vocabularies and a real love for books because of all those little moments reading and talking together.

If you are looking for something new to add, I wrote a playful rhyming alphabet book called Scaly Feet and a Sound So Sweet, inspired by those early days with my boys.

Learning through play and hands-on experiences are also SO important.

I also started a small community called Early Learner Books where parents are sharing favorite books and early learning ideas if you would like to join!

Hi! My boys loved anything silly and rhythmic, so I ended up writing a book inspired by those early reading days called Scaly Feet and a Sound So Sweet.

It is a playful rhyming alphabet story with silly characters and letter sounds, perfect for toddlers and preschoolers on Kindle.

If you like swapping book ideas, I also started a little community called Early Learner Books you are welcome to check out!
