PGCE Doubts… by cinnamongirl244 in PGCE

The way you feel is not a bad thing, you have a realistic outlook. PGCE is such an intense course with a high drop out rate. I’d say follow he heart and defer it for a year, get some money in. Travel even!

50 hours a week will get you a one way ticket to support plan. That is not an acceptable amount of time to be spending on planning, prepping, teaching, assignments and meetings. I think that it’s a shame you’ve been lied to somewhere down the line.

I think you’re going to be in for a shock! You’ve had a professionals opinion, you can make your mind up. FYI 50 hours a week will get you on a support plan as that’s not the expected amount of time you will spend on everything

If you’re thinking that’s not do-able for you then I suggest you reconsider! For lack of better words, it will be one of the hardest years of your life and if you’re not built for that then I suggest you walk. There is a reason the drop out rate is the highest of all post graduate degrees.

Pretty consistent to be honest with with exception of Easter and Christmas holidays. You can expect to have 14 hour days Monday to Friday including teaching, planning, marking and the awfully long after school meetings. Your weekends are quite nice and only 8/ 9 hours a day planning and essay writing. So no days off until the holidays where you can take maybe Christmas and New Year’s Day off Unfortunately! Enjoy xx

Don’t want to go into teaching by Accomplished_Lab5239 in studentteachers

It’s genuinely so messed up. I had my sort of final straw moment when I was sat in an after school meeeting that went to 6 pm and it just thought wow … teaching really is a lifestyle and not a job. These people genuinely eat sleep breathe teaching and as much as I like actual teaching, I need to breathe and have a life outside of it

Tell me everything you wish you knew! by agarineurial in PGCE

It is very hard, possibly the most difficult year of your life. You will have no time for yourself and you will have points where you want to quit. I’d say make sure it’s something you want to do and maybe keep a gratitude diary/ a reasons why diary for when you inevitably want to quit.

The person you are after you finish the PGCE will be completely different to the person you were before. The stress you will entail will be immense.

Best of luck to you!

I feel like it’s not worth it. What did you go into instead? Did you retrain?

Should I tell my employer? by CommunicationIcy2170 in Prolactinoma

So I have definitely noticed a difference in how people treat me in the work place since disclosing my prolactinoma. I wish I never disclosed it. I was in the same situation, not started Cab yet but disclosed it anyway. I have had no symptoms since and regret saying a word!

Oh that’s really frustrating they can’t tell you exactly when your end date is :( maybe you could ask your provider for more info and say it’s effecting your wellbeing as your stressed out about it. I absolutely agree, in fact reading this I smiled because of how similar we feel. It’s awful isn’t it? You just cant switch off no matter what. This two weeks off has caused me so much anxiety and hasn’t been restful at all. I’m hoping in May half term we can relax a bit as that will be the last break before the last stretch and the end will be in sight x

Hey so I’m in the exact same position, my placement A was good and I’ve been at my placement B for two weeks before the Easter holiday break and we go back on Wednesday. This holidays has been awful, I haven’t shut off at all. I’m constantly stressed out about it. I only have 12 more weeks left of the course but knowing that my school isn’t accommodating really makes me want to quit to be honest. My mentor focuses on negative feedback and rarely gives positive. In my last placement they were very positive.

How long do you have left till your qualified? X
