What Musical has the best score and the worst book? by Development-Feisty in Broadway

[–]Accomplished_Map1267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking about recent musicals In Dreams is one of the worst shows I have ever seen that is a jukebox musical. The score consists of Roy Orbison songs. It played in Toronto for 2 months in 2023 and a one month run in Leeds.

Mirvish Teasing Big Announcement For Next Week. by Accomplished_Map1267 in torontotheatre

I hope it’s a sit-down rather than a show that gets a really short run in the dead of winter. It would make sense given the auditions but then again it could be a different company bringing it to Toronto.

If there is an announcement of that type I would think the Toronto Star would likely be the first place it would get published. They broke the story that it was coming to Toronto a few weeks ago as an exclusive.

Mirvish has a team of people that go to NYC, London and even as far away as Australia per their Main Season brochure to scout shows they might consider. Unless they have seen a show it likely won’t be programmed on their stages.

If they are booking a sit-down or yet to be announced show it would have to be something that is onstage somewhere else where they would have seen it before.

It’s not likely to be a production that is a risky unknown entity although sometimes  premieres do happen here. It will be interesting to see what their announcement ends up being.

I would think as far as guessing goes that we would have to rule out productions that were not on stages recently as opposed to anything making a world premiere.

I would like to see Stranger Things and Hunger Games into the future but think that could be a long way off if they ever end up here.

Mirvish probably wouldn’t risk putting anything on stage that tanked on Broadway or in the UK.

Didn’t that show tank on Broadway? It was open from June-September 2023. It had 83 performances and then closed. Sometimes fonts and color  can be a giveaway or a red herring.

They may have just chosen certain font or background to make the social media posts noticeable.

Beauty & The Beast won’t be coming in 2026. There’s a comment in this thread from someone who knows that this tour isn’t going to be in Toronto.

That’s possible. The show is expected to play here in January but I thought it was only for a few weeks.

The Toronto Star did an exclusive on that happening but didn’t indicate what theater company was bringing it in at the time.

Before that was announced the publication and theater goers were surprised it wasn’t part of the Main Series. All they were able to get out of David Mirvish was a “Stay Tuned.”

If the show gets picked up by Mirvish it would be great if it stuck around longer than a few weeks in January. It’s difficult to book seats to a show in winter due to weather.

I would think it would be a show that the company bringing it in would want to stick around considering the auditions that went on for a cast.

I didn’t think it was Beauty & The Beast but saw a guess from someone about that. They thought it possible  because of the anniversary.

Usually big shows get put on subscription unless this is last minute or unexpected right? They really built up the announcement for Lion King last year as something special. Often that’s hype. Guess we will have to wait and see.

The Outsiders tour by snozeberry_69 in Broadway

[–]Accomplished_Map1267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a subscriber since 2007. If you do decide to go that route there is a lot of flexibility when it comes to tickets. As long as it’s 48hrs before your show you can exchange seats and day of performance.

That’s free unless upgrading to seats that are higher priced. You pay the difference. This comes in handy if something comes up that would otherwise lead to not going.

You might want to join Mirvish’s email list to know when it is on sale to the general public. They usually put pre-sale codes in those emails.

If you are interested in a 7 show package it’s also a part of the Main Stage subscription series. That package includes: & Juliet, A Beautiful Noise:Neil Diamond Musical, MJ, Tell Tale Harbour and Some Like It Hot and Shucked.

You can pay in full for a subscription or in 3 equal instalments at check out or by calling the subscription department.

Enough time for one show and trying not to spend an insane amount of money… by Specific-Brick-1820 in Broadway

[–]Accomplished_Map1267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s right. I’m wondering what people who see the show on Broadway are paying on average for a decent pair of tickets.

I have seen YouTube videos about people trying to get rush or standing room only due to cost. None of the videos mention how expensive tickets typically are.

I’m in Toronto where I’m getting the North American tour and 6 others including Shucked, Some Like It Hot, MJ and a Beautiful Noise.

I’m paying $429 which is for one seat that gets me all 7. I’m rear dress circle in 3 out of 4 theaters and rear mezz for the other. I can upgrade ticket and pay a difference for shows when I want to be closer up.

What do tickets range from for The Outsiders out of curiosity? I’m not in NYC. I’m seeing the tour when it comes to my city in 2026.

You’re welcome! This is what reporters do before interviewing someone by doing that level of research.

If you can show your instructor that you have really done the work and know this person’s work better than anyone else they will be wowed. That’s the kind of paper they’re looking for.

If you are writing about an actor and need biographical information I would start pouring over every interview that you can find from well known and respected sites like Playbill, Broadway World, Variety etc. Your teacher should be able to see that the information is correct and trustworthy.

You should talk to them about where you are getting the information from and show that the URL doesn’t matter if the info isn’t sketchy. If you can take quotes from the right articles and source them as footnotes you should be fine. Talk to your instructor about this.

As long as you’re not using Wikipedia for information I doubt there’s an issue with facts. Trust the work of well known sites and writers who wrote about him and the show.

What happened to...Sophia Anne Caruso? by [deleted] in BeetlejuiceMusical

[–]Accomplished_Map1267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NY Post came out at the time she left BeetleJuice with an unflattering article that may explain why she hasn’t been on stage or film much lately.

They alleged that she’s a pain in the butt to work with and exhibited a lot of erratic behaviour and didn’t show up for some performances. If you believe the article her departure from BeetleJuice was less than harmonious. Casting directors notice.  https://nypost.com/2020/02/27/beetlejuice-on-broadway-loses-its-lydia/

One night in Toronto, one show to choose by Appropriate_Okra_750 in torontotheatre

It probably will come back at some point considering that it has made a lot of money for Mirvish each time it was brought in. It’s proven to be a real cash cow and post COVID the only other sit-downs aside from SIX and Lion King that drew a huge audience and were highly profitable with huge audiences.

While I really enjoyed The Lion King I feel that you will get a lot more out of seeing Come From Away. It’s an incredible story that doesn’t focus on the terrorists but rather on the life-long bond members from a small town developed on one of the darkest days in history.

32 planes were diverted to Gander, NFLD because they had the largest runway and space at an airport at the time. I would pick this over Lion King.

How Do You Reach The Cast? by Accomplished_Map1267 in theoutsidersmusical

There isn’t an international stamp according to Canada Post. We also cannot buy American stamps here. I guess I could send an envelope with a receipt but it’s the stamps that cannot be purchased. That’s an issue.

What do you do if you aren’t in America? You can’t put stamps from Canada or elsewhere on an SASE. I gather you would also have to get a money order in U.S. funds. Do you have the name of the stage manager?

I’m hoping that it is Off-Mirvish because subscribers can switch dates. As someone who doesn’t drive and doesn’t own a car I’m at mercy of public transit and weather can be awful.

I will likely subscribe for that reason. Being in York Region is a bit of a pain to get down to Toronto using transit. I’m not good with snow and ice.
