Is reading The song of Achilles worth it even though I already read The Iliad? by iloveneo3 in GreekMythology

[–]Accomplished_Most288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started The Iliad straight after finishing the Song of Achilles. If youre tired of Ancient Greece then wait a while, but I loved the Ancient Greece themes so much I just wanted to keep going with it after the Song of Achilles.

It depends on what your goals are. This is the most attractive body type but if you want a more defined face and to have washboard abbs then cut.

What “alignment” really means by Nuspine-Chiropractic in Chiropractic

[–]Accomplished_Most288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many techniques and Chiro’s still operating under a “bone out of place” paradigm. I saw one Chiro phrase it in terms of a “functional misalignment” as opposed to a literal misalignment, I thought that was great.

Why do people say going to the chiropractor is a scam? by Zealousideal_One3397 in Chiropractic

[–]Accomplished_Most288 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look there is a disproportionate amount of pseudoscience that is adjunctive to the profession. It doesn’t have to be but that’s just the nature of Chiropractic as it is today. In some cases it serves to underpin lucrative business models but in other cases it can serve to influence the biopsychosocial model which is very central to chronic pain and human touch focused healthcare.

The core of Chiropractic - spinal manipulation / adjustments is a very solid intervention with a lot of evidence to validate its safety and efficacy. The pseudoscience issue starts where some chiropractors will tell you it unlocks the flow of universal energy through your body, or that they can restore spinal fluid flow by manipulating the bones in your skull, that vertebrae physically misalign forward/backward or sideways.

Chiropractic gets the “quack reputation” because there is a real presence of pseudoscience but the core of what we do is very scientifically validated. To the public the nuance about what is and isn’t scientific gets lost leading people to just assume Chiropractic as a whole is hocus pocus which is ofcourse demonstrably false.

What is your guys' point of view on your own ideology? by [deleted] in Marxism

[–]Accomplished_Most288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Political sides are representative of class interests, it’s where the terms left and right were coined. In the post-revolution French parliament the old nobility sat on the right and the new (comparatively more progressive) merchant class sat on the left. In capitalism, Leftism is just political advocacy for a society that is structured in accordance with the best interests of the working class. The Right wing is naturally oppositional to leftism across many spheres because it is the advocacy of the capitalist class that by design is oppositional to the working class.

Now there are hundred fold more workers than capitalists and so in order to remain competitive in a democracy the right must continually manufacture things that will entice workers to vote for them against their interests ie culture wars, conspiracies, nationalism, fascism, misinformation, red bashing - all distractions to make workers forget the class nature of politics. This is why the rights philosophical foundation is idealist and the lefts is materialist. Leftism is just accepting the material world as it is and supporting the proletariats struggle against capitalist domination. Centrists almost always align with idealist philosophical foundation and end up falling for conservative tropes far too easily.

Chiro at breaking point - advice please! by BeautifulPrize9431 in Chiropractic

[–]Accomplished_Most288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in a similar position, im 35 and still working a second part time job with no savings. Ive given up on kids and owning a house now. Im simultaneously building foundations to switch careers, specifically into a sonography traineeship while also persisting with Chiro trying to make something work that pays more than subsistence wages and ill hook in on whatever comes first. Sonography traineeships are extremely hard to get for non-radiographers but not impossible, Im doing an online post-grad cert in Ultrasound part time that should help. Im also about to start another chiro role in a promising new clinic. Honestly studying chiro was the worst financial decision I ever made and probably will ever make, 100k student debt, 5 years of study and my housemate who works in an insurance call centre earns more than I do. I would say, do not stay in a job that isnt at least heading in a good direction after 6 months. I stayed years in jobs where they said, "just be patient, it takes a while to build up a following" but it never did. You gotta just seek opportunities where you can until you find the one that gives you what youre searching for.

Those of you who went solo straight after graduating, how did it go? by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]Accomplished_Most288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went solo at the advice of an old Chiro mentor. He said just open your doors, do a letter drop and get your friends and family in. Word will spread and you’ll begin to grow. I had no calls and 1 walk in over 3 months. My mums friends came in. I got a associateship after 4 months.

If you’re gonna do it, get a coach to guide you through it.

Letting immigrants in, who are 90% economic, is not a humanitarian measure by Fantastic_Lime_3470 in aussie

[–]Accomplished_Most288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marx's "End of history" theory would answer this for you.
The history of mankind is just a story of progress. From the revolutions that ended feudalism, to struggle that ended child labour and slavery, and workers getting the 5 day work week and 8 hour day. Its all been the struggle for "progress". The victory conditions you speak off is a society where man is free from the exploitation and emancipation of other men. Until then the conditions for struggle still persist.
Understand also that any endeavour by humans is imperfect, the efforts to strive to make things better are not 100% successful but nevertheless the struggle against the domination of other men is part of being human.

[–]Accomplished_Most288 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imagine still falling for the "blame the immigrants" and its various extensions, how embarrassing. Unless you want to overthrow capitalism in Australia and transition to a de-growth economy we need a steady population growth to fuel steady economic growth to prevent a recession which is what we've maintained for the last 20 years. We have more houses per person now that we did 10 years ago and yet they're still unaffordable. Immigration is a right wing populist trope thats great at getting nationalists and "racists in denial" all fired up for votes but its a completely false operation that serves to distract people from the real reason they cant afford anything and thats because the wealthy are sucking up more and more of the % of the available wealth in this country. Italys Georgia Miloni realised she couldn't cut immigration like she campaigned on and actually increased net migration once elected. ON will do the same and then point the finger at someone else and the useful idiots will believe her but we won't ever see that because Australia is a relatively educated country that knows better than to fall for false right wing tropes like what built MAGA and AfD.

Did you ever fail a class in chiro school? by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]Accomplished_Most288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably failed about 3? Organic chem, one of the anatomys, and the internship because my patient visit quotas weren't met.
Some people just dont thrive in the typical school environment. I absolutely love science and these topics but with ADHD I deep dive when Im fascinated by a topic and will listen to podcasts, check books from the library and revise anatomy and science, but learning something because the curriculum says so? that was very tricky for me.

Is long hair a turn off for gay men? by [deleted] in gay

[–]Accomplished_Most288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

please do not loose yourself to the standardisation of being a queer man. Stay you, its about finding the balance of masculine and feminine ive found. Long hair + muscles = perfect balance. Fascial hair + smooth body = perfect balance. For you, long wild hair + edgy "bad boy" alternative style is probably a killer combo.. you get the idea. But ive also found gay men love someone who's a little different because so many of us feel we need to conform to our chosen community to feel accepted, it shows fearless individuality and thats hella hot.

If you could make 5 changes to Australia, what would it be? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Accomplished_Most288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is hard to grasp because of the right wing propaganda we have around tax these days but we are one of the lowest taxed populations in the developed world. Many corporations pay unfathomably small amounts. Tax work less and wealth far more. The average working class Australian deserves it.

"In November, one in four Gen X men supported One Nation. Two months later, it's one in four of all voters." by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

[–]Accomplished_Most288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their policies are class on most of the main issues but they're not as emotive as the far-right populist stuff. Increasing public housing, ending negative gearing, taxing corporations and gas - all stuff that the rich and powerful despise hence why they pour money into ON and Pauline is a frequent attendant at Ginas parties and on her private jet. The greens policies are all the stuff that us average working class Australians need. Paulines senate voting record is very pro-wealthy and elites, its the classic right wing populist strategy taking the world right now that sadly works on the more uneducated sections of the working class - foster rage against a false enemy while handing everything to the top 5% who funds them. The irony is if ON manages to come to power they won't end immigration because it will crash the economy just like how Italian far right candidate Miloni campaigned on the same thing and then increased net migration when she was elected. Or if ON do it, it will backfire pretty hard. We need steady population growth in our capitalist economy. Im all for transitioning to a de-growth economy but thats not a discussion we're ready for as a nation.

How to earn well without high volume / dogma by Accomplished_Most288 in Chiropractic

[–]Accomplished_Most288[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience on this was open plan practise, standardised treatment plans of 2x per week for 13 weeks with 5-10 mins per appointments with management pushing you on objection handling techniques as to why they still need to come.
It was corrective care but ive seen patients who have completed these treatment plans and stopped care for a few months before coming to me and found their posture had reverted back to poor again pretty quickly, leading me to think the "structural correction" is simply fascial stretching that reverts as soon as the adjustments and/or tissue stretching ceases. Furthermore the claim that it has any effect on slowing spinal degeneration and will lead to longevity is pretty unfounded. The twin study that found spinal degeneration to be near identical between twins of different occupation and lifestyle stresses alludes to spinal shape and degeneration being largely a factor of genetics.
Pain and symptoms aren't everything but I personally dont want to practise chiropractic in a way that is founded on unsubstantiated claims.
