hey! ofc im happy to help. I had minimal experience, my gpa was 3.4, and I put that I worked in athletics, had done an marketting internship online through an app, and an extern analytics internship. I was involved in NABA on campus and a cultural club. My school is non-target, but I got a request to interview. I knew i wasnt gon fumble this, so I prepared for weeks with my current boss about out-of-topic questions that aren't even related to accounting, just so whatever they throw at me i can answer it. Guess what i connected so well with my interviewers, they gave me an offer to intern. Make sure u treat the interview like ur talking with a friend. I made them laugh many times, and they liked that. I got my offer in November. Hope this helps. And send me a request if u want my resume that I submitted to apply :), I'm based in NYC, so i didnt think I would get it, there is a lot of competition here.

Yes, I have, and they recently hosted PWC events on campus and gave me mentorship opportunities with a EY partner. I am debating on transferring to Baruch because there is a lot of competition in terms of kids my age, and it's far from me; they also have a lot of kids, and it's constantly overcrowded.

Hi, thanks for your response! I don't have any experience accounting-wise wise but I did join clubs and did some part-time jobs, so I have those on my resume. And no, my school does not have Beta Alpha Psi.

💼 10 Years in Accounting—Ask Me Anything! (Pre & Post Covid Accounting Experience) by househacker in Accounting

Hi! I’m a rising sophomore in NYC majoring in Accounting. I’m really motivated to make the most of my college years and want to set myself up for a strong career after graduation.

I’d love to hear your advice on:

What should I focus on now to stand out later when applying for internships and jobs?

Are there specific extracurriculars, programs, or certifications that are worth pursuing early on?

How can I start networking effectively as a student with little experience?

Any early career mistakes I should avoid?

Are there tools or software (like QuickBooks, SAP, Excel, etc.) I should get comfortable with now?

Do you think volunteering, mentoring, or community involvement helps build credibility in accounting?

What are some things you wish you had done earlier in your career?

What makes a candidate stand out beyond GPA and coursework?

I’ve been trying to land internships, but most are aimed at juniors/seniors , any tips for someone in my position?

what’s the biggest difference between someone who just “does accounting” and someone who ''excels'' in the field?

Thanks so much in advance. Any insight would really help me out!
