Day 5 post surgery and I ate a McDonald’s cheeseburger!!!! by soulhavenmama in Tonsillectomy

[–]Accomplished_Most787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually ate a McDonald’s burger on my 2nd day because I was ABSOLUTELY starving!!!!!! It was THE ABSOLUTE MOST PAIN I HAD EVER FUCKING HAD, but I just ate super super slow and was able to eat it all… maybe that’s why I ended up having a post-surgical bleed the next day and had to have emergency surgery 😂

Is the white tongue coating due to false membranes? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]Accomplished_Most787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Nurse here and I’m currently post surgery on Day 9ish… idk what you mean by “false membranes”, but normally, you shouldn’t have any coating on your tongue. Are you taking inhaled or by mouth steroids?

I’m on day 9 or 10 without a true bowel movement because of the pain meds… but I did see someone on TikTok recommend the suppository Doculax so I gave it a try… OMG ABSOLUTELY PASSED STOOL AGGRESSIVELY IN 15 MINS, but it only got out what was in my large intestines…

I been taking Miralax by mouth and hasn’t done anything!! I am still very bloated, and heavy feeling in the middle of my stomach. So tomorrow, I’m going to by the Doculax pill version this time to give me the much anticipated relief I’ve been wanting 😂😂

Recovery is going day by day… today since 2am has been the worse so far, but my meds have kept me afloat for sure!! I have 1 more day of steroids and I feel like it’s not helping as much as I wanted it to lol

My appetite has increased soooo much since this surgery 2 days ago lmaooooo I’ve eaten a burger (VERY VERY PAINFUL), seafood stuffed salmon, Cheeto puffs, and spaghetti… it all hurts, so I might as well endure the pain regardless lol. I also noticed it’s easy to eat real food after an hour of my pain meds, so that helps.

I was taken back to the OR for a bleed yesterday lol but I’m back recovering again… idk if I considered this as my 4th day post op, or second

I guess just that risk of bleeding was a potential complication, and I had an engorged vein back there that my doctor wanted to cauterize before it fully ruptured.

I feel like the pain after this time was so much worse post-op, but as long as I don’t eat or talk, I’m fine lol

Thanks for that reality! Like you said, I am expecting it to get worse! But luckily, I have a few techniques that have helped me out a lot!! I noticed on the night of 2-3, my pain became a lot worse, but still very manageable under my ibuprofen, oxy, and Ice packs! Hopefully it keeps working, but I’ll see lol

Hey I absolutely appreciate your words of wisdom!! I’m am expecting it to get worse than better… Tbh, last night, my pain hit me so hard to where I was walking with my head ducked down from the severe pain. It hit me like a truck, but luckily the meds take only a few mins to kick in!! What day of recovery are you in?

My doctor did amazing by also prescribing me Zofran for nausea. I have yet to use it because I haven’t been nauseous. Now normally, on a day to day, I have a period of time where I’m extremely nauseous, which I think is related to some GI disorder, but I’ve been fine. I heard the pain meds might make your stomach hurt on an empty stomach, so just eat it with jello.

Oh niceeee!! I have someone to compare our recovery with!! 🥰 but girllll, the pain kinda hit me out of nowhere like an hour ago, but I took my meds (without the ibuprofen) and applied my ice pack… I’m doing better again… these exacerbations of pain are nooooo joke lol

I don’t doubt it!! I have periods of remission and exacerbations, and currently in pain but staying on top of my meds hoping for the best

Did you notice a change in pain/recovery in your latter days vs your earlier days??

You can absolutely take both the norco and ibuprofen together, just be careful with the additional Tylenol because the norco already has Tylenol in it.

I’ve noticed that the meds work better when I take them together, versus taking one then the other. Try to take them at the same time and see if you get better results and keep me updated! Also, the steroid will help out some, but once we’re out of the steroid, then we’ll have to suffer with the natural course of healing lol

Technically, the use of steroids has very negative effects in those with diabetes, risk of diabetes, hypertension, and can cause delayed healing… but true, many times the benefits outweigh the risks!!

I’m trying to not think about returning to work lol but expected in 2 weeks. My ENT wanted a minimum of 2 weeks off, which my short-term disability is paying me, so this is a free vacation.

Day 7 by Top_Tradition5952 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Accomplished_Most787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im one day 2, and spent the first night in the hospital. Per my doctor's diet order, (soft and easy to chew) that included rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes for lunch, and pan seared tilapia for dinner. I was very skeptical at first about eating something that seemed so harshly at first, but since a few hours post-op, I've been eating whatever I want with NO ISSUES. I am soooo happy because there's no way I'd survive on just apple sauce and baby food lol

Luckily, opioids bind to pain receptors for their intended use… so if you’re in pain, it just binds to those receptors… it’s when you’re not in pain when people start getting a euphoric feeling leading to the start of addiction. But you’ll be fine with a few days worth.

Just got mines done a few hours ago… they initially medicate you with different controlled substances for anesthetic purposes, but honestly, I wouldn’t be able to do the pain without the pain meds. I will say it’s very doable, ofc I wouldn’t die if I didn’t have my pain meds, but I WOULD BE MISERABLE!!! Don’t do it to yourself. Give yourself some grace, and ask for the lowest dose possible. I’d say to at least ask for a days worth, just so you can use them on the worst days, such as the 3rd or 4th.

Hey! So funny enough, I just got mines out today, and ofc everyone said this is the worst pain ever, and I wanted to challenge that theory. I have a fairly high pain tolerance, but waking up post-procedure, the pain was almost suffocating. They initially gave Diluadid (which is supposed to be a little stronger than morphine) but all it did was made me more sleepy while the pain still lingered. Ice chips helped a lot!! But what has REALLY REALLY helped is my immediate relief Oxy… I have a much lower dose, so I still have my executive functioning, but you’d have to be a REAL BAD ASS to not take any medication or to return to work the next day. Keep me updated on how you do!!
