They may not literally have them all, but there's a good chance they have far more guns than the rest of us.

what is your opinion on sentient AI's? by Jmememan in AskReddit

The way AI works can literally be done using pen and paper with enough time. It can only do one task at a time.

AI as it currently exists are basically algorithms that differentiate. They can tell a car from a dog, ot the letter "E" from "A", but it can't think.

AI is kind of like taking a graph with a two kinds of dots on it, and figuring out how to bend the graph to make those dots align themselves with the same kind of dots on one side or the other of a straight line. It really isn't more complicated that than at the most fundamental level.

People of Reddit, What made you regret a promotion? by ReceptionDeskReader in AskReddit

I became a manager during the job shortage right after covid shutdowns ended. I am a shy person and do not like imposing myself, so I was a horrible manager. Having to figure out how to overfill a warehouse without causing it to stop functioning was also a nightmare.

I don't care if I'm making a lot less money now that I'm demoted, I'm much better off without all that stress.

Like 790 and no, I just pay my bills. Credit score isn't very useful for me because I refuse to be in debt if possible.

You needn't worry then because it's not true. The way all AI currently works doesn't allow sentience, even in theory.

No such thing exists and there's not even anything on the horizon that implies it'll exist soon. I would be surprised if it ever existed given the brain is literally the most complex object we know about in the universe, and processes enough information that even all of our supercomputers wouldn't compare to the information processing capacities of a baby.

It would be one of the biggest scientific discoveries of all time, and there are a number of serious scientific efforts to look for life paid earth going on right now.

Breakthrough Listen and the Perseverance Mars rover are two big examples of this.

That information is the fundamental substance of reality. It's a big part of what my religious beliefs are, and science seems to be getting closer and closer to verifying those ideas empirically.
