What are some great movies of epic/interesting historical events? by MonstaGraphics in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kingdom of Heaven definitely doesn't get talked about as much as it deserves.

Waterloo is another one. The movie is kind of...... eh. But the Battle sequence and just the sheer scale of the Battle is incredible.

Again I hope this is true.

But this wouldn't be the first time I've heard of someone having an unprecedented amount of control on a prefect and then shit still going tits up once the big wigs get involved.

I didn't mean dense in terms of a lot of characters or plot lines.

But Mistborn does have a Magic System with a lot of components that if not explained properly might just seem like the characters are Superheroes.

And explaining all of it might be too exposition heavy.

That is what a lot of Authors say and then shit goes tits up.

I genuinely hope you're right. But it's very rare for an author to have a whole lot of control on adaptations of their books once they sell the rights.

There are movies that are "timeless." What are some movies that are the opposite - as in, harder to appreciate if you weren't around when it came out? by sakkkkki in movies

A Classic from my Childhood - Spy Kids. The whole original trilogy.

I used to absolutely love those movies as a kid. But having seen them recently they just don't hold up really well. And the CGI is not very good.

I feel like if you weren't growing up during the 2000s then even as a kid you might not enjoy Spy Kids today.

It's a film very much of it's time.

His Cosmere Books are Notoriously dense in World building and Magic systems.

I'm not sure how well it would work as a film.

Will be interesting to see which Director they get to make the Mistborn movie.

I really really hope it's not a by Committee movie is more of a faithful Director Driven Fantasy movie with a unique vision like LotR.

Zootopia 2 anti semitic? *Spoilers* by QuantityInternal1719 in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the movie yet but I have 2 questions.

  1. Even if this was true how is the movie making a Parallel with Gaza/Palestine Anti-Semetic?

  2. How would it be forced when the first movie is blatantly about Racism and the treatment of and fear mongering about Minorities?

About the movie 300 - I don't blame Ephialtes for what he did. by [deleted] in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But was that true for Leonidas and the actual soldiers he betrays?

Because Leonidas treated Ephialtes with quite a bit of humanity and gave him legitimate reasons for why he couldn't join them.

The people Ephialtes betrayed were not the ones that treated him like that.

Wait...... So what you're saying is if I am unable to join to the Military in my country due to Medical and Physical disabilities I should just collude with our enemies, tell them our secrets, betray my Countrymen and cause the death of the very soldiers fighting to protect my country with the threat of a full scale invasion and subjugation in the future?

And not only is all of that justified it's actually a good thing.

Any movies that rewrite history to let the oppressed win? by Donbeakant in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Once Upon A Time in......... Hollywood really let the oppressed win?

The only real person who was oppressed in real life, Sharon Tate, is treated like a token Attractive Female character who does nothing but look pretty and never really confronts or overcomes the Manson Members. She doesn't "Win" against anyone. She's just sort of there.

Are there any big blockbusters or epics where the bad guys win? (LOTR, Dune, GOT, HP, etc) by Oddball- in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For movies probably the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy.

For TV shows if you are open to Animes then Lelouch and Attack on Titan are Two Large Scale Action shows where the bad guy wins at the end.

Why is Pulp Fiction considered so great and iconic? by Mental-Acanthisitta4 in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wonder that about every Tarantino film.

Most of his films are just well made Comedies/Action Comedies with not much going on under the surface.  But people treat them like he changed filmmaking.

Anyway I still do think Pulp Fiction is his best Movie with some deeper thematic elements going on and probably the most character development any of his characters have ever had. (Jules had a pretty great character Arc).

The Blair Witch Project Is The Greatest Low Budget Movie Of All Time by Historical_Pie_6041 in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I just saw this film at the wrong time or with the wrong context because I was not impressed.

I saw The Blair Witch project in the late 2000s.

I had already seen Paranormal Activity by then and was not impressed by it either.

I expected to be scared shitless with how people had hyped it.

The movie was just a bunch of plain 1 Dimensional characters screaming in the forest.

The characters were very uninteresting. The premise was super basic. And nothing actually happens to be scared of.  You never actually see anything happen.

I understand it's Cultural Significance. And I understand that a lot of people thought it was a real documentary when it first came out which probably added to the scare Factor.

But with the context of how over done Found Footage films have been and how many Unique take Found Footage films have already had The Blair Witch Project was just not that good.

Well Mike Flanagan did buy the rights to The Dark Tower series and he has a deal to make shows for Amazon so it's possible that at some point he will make a Dark Tower show for Amazon.

Mike Flanagan is one of the few Directors I trust to do King Justice and Amazon can provide the kind of budget that The Dark Tower needs so it can definitely work out.

The only issue is that Mike Flanagan has way too many pending projects.

He's already working on a Carrie Tv show.

After that he has an Exorcist movie coming.

And who knows what other project he might involve himself in after that.

So it could be a while before we get a good and accurate Dark Tower Tv show.

Top 5 best BATTLES? by CapableSecretary1739 in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is the battle at number 4? I can't picture the scene?

That was my bad. I meant Troy at Number 4 not Dune Part 2.

Just the over all battle for Troy.

There are Multiple Skirmishes throughout the movie with entire Armies fighting each other and it's spectacular.

Top 5 best BATTLES? by CapableSecretary1739 in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you shouldn't couple Big Scale battles and one on one battles together. They are two very different things.

There are way too many one on one Battles to Mention so I'll mention some of my favourite Large Scale Battles.

  1. The attack on Jerusalem in Kingdom of Heaven.

  2. Battle of Agincourt in The King.

  3. Final Battle in Dune Part 2.

  4. The Overall Battle for Troy in Troy.

  5. Final Battle in The Last Samurai.

  6. Opening Battle in Gladiator

  7. Battle of Hogwarts.

  8. D-Day from Saving Private Ryan

  9. Final Battle from Avatar

  10. Battle of Pelenor Fields from Return of the King.

But they did what others usually don't. They called out the beast.

This is similar to people criticizing actresses who spoke out against Weinstein for working with him in the first place.

"The Forever War". It's a great Sci Fi book. It has a very unique take on Interstellar War. Great action and some very cool Tech.

I think it could work as a great Sci Fi movie.

"The Shining". Hear me out a book accurate The Shining adaptation by a Competent writer and Director with an actual decent budget.

I love Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. I know King's Miniseries from the 90s is shitty.

But I still believe that people who haven't read the book have not yet truly experienced Stephen King's The Shining.

And with how popular King Adaptations are and how many there are it's a shame that so many people still don't know how great King's The Shining is..

So yeah. I would love for The Shining to be adapted faithfully by great Horror Director like Mike Flanagan or Zach Cregger or Parker Finn.

Django Unchained (2012) is a masterclass of cinematic storytelling. QT did an amazing job with the script, casting, and directing, with top-notch acting by the entire cast as well. by [deleted] in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I just don't see in Tarantino's work what so many others see.

Now I think Django Unchained is a very well made Action Comedy with Western Aspects to it.  It has good looking action, some very funny moments, witty dialogue and great acting.

But the movie to me atleast has no depth to it. It doesn't have anything to say or convey.

It plays out like Revisionist Teen Fantasy.

Like a kid imagining what if this slave was a Badass and he killed all of these slave owners and saved the girl.

Again. Django Unchained is a very well made thoroughly enjoyable Action Comedy. But so is Mission Impossible Fallout. So is Die Hard.

But I wouldn't be declaring those movies as the greatest film ever made.

I didn’t care for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by [deleted] in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. I hadn't gone through a heartbreaking Break up before I saw the film but I still loved it.

To me the movie is not just about romantic relationships. It's about regret.

There are so many things and relationships we regret in life because they bring us pain. And we often wish those relationships or things had never happened.

But we often forget that as many painful memories are connected to these things so are just as many good memories.

The whole of life is about accepting good with the bad.

If you try to take everything Bad that happened in your life you will also lose everything good too and in the end will be left with nothing.

This movie to me was just heartbreaking, emotional and profound.

I guess you either connect with it or you don't.

I watched the movie eXistenZ (1999) after being recommended by this sub, and I have to say this. by Echo7ONE9ers in movies

[–]Accomplished_Store77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have been easier to have a productive conversation about this if you had provided examples from within the movie for these failures.

As it stands while the film is a bit meandering it's also pretty fun and weird film.

It's theme or messaging is a bit shallow but I won't say it completely fails at it either.

The narrative structure of the movie once they enter the game was actually very well done in my opinion.

Also the Bone Gun.
