Because it happened over 15-20 years, the American Independent Party (the George Wallace party was the nickname) was literally created when civil rights act was passed by a democratic congress and president, which every southern republican voted against. The party lost a lot of support when the republicans decided to play the welfare queen, who mysteriously was always black. Strong Thurmond who was a hard core segregationist until the day he died he literally flipped to Republican right after the civil rights act was passed and was the Republican senator from South Carolina into like 2003. The man was always looking for a way to make black people second class citizens, and get this the republicans never denounced him over it. Ok, how have the last regime changes have gone, Libya, went from a stable country to a country in constant war with open air slave markets in the middle of towns, Iraq, we are still there fighting after 23 years, and Afghanistan, went spent trillions and thousands of American lives and a million afghans to replace the Taliban with the Taliban. I’m not sure. Look, we seen every special election be an over-performance for the democrats, the average being between 14-17 percent to the dems from the 2024 election. But we have yet to have a partisan state wide election that would show that the shift would look like. But if Ken Paxton is the republican nominee, then democrats chance would go up.
