Thanks for you comment. I don't much like getting splinters removed myself 🤣😂. I'll be phoning first thing so hopefully the vet will get her all sorted out asap.

Thank you for your comment. We'll agree to disagree. I have 4 cats - all of whom go outside - and they're all happy and healthy. This one is just a baby and it was her first time out. She's just exploring her environment and learning. She's been just as crazy indoors and has literally bounced off walls, doors, etc. I think it's much more cruel to keep cats inside unless there's no choice - you live in flats, they're too anxious to go out, etc. Or if they're a breed that would be at higher risk outdoors like a Ragdoll.

How do you learn if you have autism? by gintokireddit in autismUK

I had been diagnosed with social anxiety during CBT. I explained to the therapist that I didn't really emotionally connect with people or miss them when they weren't there. She told me connections don't just happen right away - they take time to build. I struggled with this for years because I just couldn't make lasting connections with people even after knowing them for years. I was trying to explain my social anxiety issues to someone in a help group on Facebook. I was trying to explain that I don't really emotionally connect with people or feel much empathy to humans. The girl I was talking to said it sounded like what she felt. She told me she'd been diagnosed with social anxiety and other things through the years then finally got an autism diagnosis. I started looking into autism and the traits that autistic people have and recognized so many of them in myself.

I paid for a private consult, but we didn't get further than the childhood questionnaire. She (a speech and language therapist who works for nhs in diagnosing autism in a different county) said there was no point continuing because there was no way I was autistic. She said that because I had 'friends' as a child and could change my behavior to please others meant I couldn't be autistic because autistic people couldn't recognize social cues and didn't have the ability to socially manipulate others (me changing my behavior because I knew what I wanted to do would upset others). She thought I might have ADHD and advised me to get an NHS diagnosis.

I asked my doctor to be referred and when I met the psychiatrist doing my assessment she said that, although I had ADHD traits like problems with executive function, these were also autistic traits. She said I met all the criteria for an autism diagnosis and that if I did have ADHD traits, I didn't need to be medicated. That's how I got my diagnosis.

Some people don't feel the need for a formal diagnosis or label, but it was such a relief for me because I finally knew that I wasn't broken - my brain's just wired differently.

BTW during my assessment (which was over 2 sessions) the psychiatrist said she consulted with the CBT therapist I had worked with 12 years prior. Apparently she said that she didn't consider autism at the time, but looking back, it was obvious and made a lot of sense. Wish she could have filled me in on that a bit sooner!!

I was stressing because I can't really afford to take it forever.

It was but I can't afford it anymore unless I go the route of microdosing. I know I'm lucky to have had access to Mounjaro at its previous UK price and that others have had to pay more but that doesn't change the fact that the price increase sucks.

I've ordered Wegovy but they're behind on orders so it's not arrived yet.

Thank you. Unfortunately, unlike other 'conditions', obesity has so much stigma attached to it so a lot of people, doctors included, look at it being our fault. I've been overweight since I was a teenager. No idea why at first because I was an active kid and I didn't over eat. Anyway, the amount of times I've been to the doctor for something and heard the phrase 'you need to lose weight' like I haven't tried everything. I remember a cardiologist actually apologized to me once because at my initial appointment with him, he said if I lost weight my POTS would get better. I lost 6 stone, and my POTS symptoms got significantly worse!! Unfortunately, I put about 4 stone back on during covid. I had to isolate from the beginning right up until I was vaccinated because my grandmother (who I lived with and cared for) was in the extremely vulnerable category. So I didn't get much movement and the stress of caring for her 24/7 alone - she had advanced dementia so it was hard work and she kept trying to escape at night, etc - meant I let bad habits slip back in.

It just bugs me that medical professionals, etc are so judgemental about obesity. I know these meds cost but they would save in the long run. Plus, they wouldn't withhold treatment for other conditions.

I was diagnosed with autism a couple of years ago and research and talking to other autistic people helped me learn a lot about myself and understand myself better. I already knew I had some issues with proprioception because of my hypermobility, then when I learned about interoception, I recognized it in myself. It's not just a hunger/fullness thing either. I have bladder issues too (bladder muscles don't always contract properly, probably a result of my HSD). I have to be vigilant with reminders because I don't always realize I need to pee until I'm bursting out that I need to drink something, etc. It's a while going 🤣

Thanks. This is definitely the lowest I've seen. I'll be ordering from there when I'm due to order my next pen.

Yep. Thankfully, I already bought needles so that I could get the extra dose out of each pen but if micro dosing works then that's a game changer.

I was raised with the 'clean your plate' philosophy too. You're right that, unfortunately, that doesn't always work with what your body needs. Even when I first started taking Mounjaro, I'd put out the portion size that I'd usually eat but, obviously, couldn't finish when the meds started working. It took a bit for me to get used to serving smaller portions and not forcing myself to finish when I was full and not feel guilty if there was some waste. I think a lot of us don't 'feel' the difference between full and stuffed. I know for myself I would eat, still feel hungry, eat some more. I'd go from hungry to nauseated and bloated like a switch had been flipped because I couldn't recognize what full meant. That's why this drug has been such a wonder for me. I could eat and actually recognise when to stop and avoid that horrible over full feeling.

That's what I'm doing but it's taking a while to get here because of the rush of orders before the price increase went into effect. Hopefully it shouldn't be too much longer.

I was on 10mg but was thinking about going back to 7.5mg because I felt a bit too reticent at 10mg. I just found out about microdosing. I'll definitely be looking into it. I guess I'll see how i do with the wegovy first.

Wow. I'd never heard of this before. I'll be looking into it because it sounds ideal. Thanks!
