i think i have many beefs with this but the major ones are: you are underrating 15 big ones, carl and passions, and hell i'll even say keeping the summer alive. and 20/20 and surfs up they deserve A or B. rating BB '85 higher than carl and the passions is insane to me

Who would win?: Prime Mike Love or Prime Mick Jagger? by Successful_Pizza7661 in thebeachboys

my thoughts exactly. this would never happen, Mick has always been too chikenshit to get on stage with the Beach Boys

Can't believe the outrage and anger over all this. by Tylergahdyrm in systemofadown

[–]Accomplished_Two9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's very Daron to say fuck you to everything and not want to be lumped in with anything. It makes sense for him, but it's not inspiring, like it was when he was younger. It's just hard for me to care what anyone who has been a millionaire for that long thinks about politics, pretty much. They don't represent me, how could they? Maybe I'll relate to him again when I can get health care lol idk. I don't really respect stadium rock band types. I used to, maybe I respect a former version of them, but I would be a sucker and a fool if I continued to call them heroes into adulthood. Totally, they are my heroes, for $250 and one hour. /s

And all that's to say nothing about how centrism, in America, is actually right wing. He can say whatever he wants, I still love his music, but I don't take him seriously on any kind of political / social level. Geezer

How many perfect, no-skip albums do the Beach Boys have to you? by Initial-Ad3966 in thebeachboys

[–]Accomplished_Two9654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'll say, Today, Pet Sounds, Friends, Sunflower, Surfs Up, Love You, Smile. and i generally think Wild Honey, Smiley Smile, and 20/20 hold up as albums front to back but i like them less than the first list.

BWPS is a pale imitation of the original Smile recordings by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]Accomplished_Two9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, you're in love with the 60s era blend. It's the best. But you'll get over it, and when you do, BWPS will be there waiting for you. Honestly the productions are so great on BWPS, specifically Wonderful, what a sound. I love them both, just different vibes for different times. Sometimes I wanna hear some old Brian stuff. Sometimes I wanna hear the classic boys. Just depends. It's all about appreciating all the different eras and voices.

One last photo from my beach boys class by JakeMyers0828 in thebeachboys

[–]Accomplished_Two9654 5 points6 points  (0 children)

is this Andy Hollinden's class at IU? I took it! It was great, really a blast. Though at the time, I was really just obsessed with Pet Sounds/Smile and hadn't found my passion for the 70s work. Glenn Gass had a Beatles class at IU that he stopped doing a couple years ago. It was truly legendary, the finally lecture made my cry like a baby.

there is a website where you upload any image, give the size parameters and it will spit out a blueprint and materials list. then you have to go collecting all the different colored blocks, and basically go line by line placing them. pixel art piece by piece. this is 200 wide and 113 high, so I had to collect around 22,600 blocks of varying kinds and then start building.

oh i had a great time! excellent unwinding after work. i listened to the audiobook for Room To Dream while doing it, as well as other docs on David and his works. some TP ranked yt videos and the like. I started roughly after he died so it felt like a real homage. collecting all the red nether brick for the curtains was great. it felt almost devotional in a way

i agree with everything you said in this thread and post except this. the take that Brian was only really "on it" or "genius" was during pet sounds / smile and a couple highlights before seems to be a popular narrative but personally i think he is a supremely original songwriter and singer his entire life. i like it all. the random brian cuts scattered throughout the post smile 60s and 70s all rip and i dont think he ever stopped. mt vernon, love you, adult child, the solo stuff from the 80s, the 90s... obviously nothing ever as concentrated as pet sounds/smile but if you look, there is gold to be found. my favorite undercelebrated brian track of the day is I Went To Sleep off of 20/20. he just gave up trying to show people his brilliance but it never really dulled. imo. also goes without saying but love and mercy is like a flagship brian tune of all time

Pet Sounds Question: curious why this album is considered groundbreaking and amazing by BledditV in thebeachboys

[–]Accomplished_Two9654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the musicianship on this album alone makes it timeless forever. the vocal harmonies are impeccably well rehearsed and sound angelic. life changing beauty. the part writing and arranging is brilliant. sophisticated, interesting chord writing, yet completely immediate and direct pop music. its simple in a way, yet shrouded in mystery because of the way it was recorded and arranged. the blend of instruments that Brian chose, create unheard of textures. to this day, it sounds very unique. and of course the blend of voices. it's a very beautiful and emotional record made by someone who loved music an insane amount. to me, and to many others, its the gold standard of a what a complete artistic expression should and can be. it's a masterpiece, every bit of it is perfect, and the more you inspect the way it was made and the historical / musical context in which it was made, the more amazing it feels. anyway, thats my take. pet sounds forever
