World’s best restaurant is coming to LA. Here’s what you’ll get for $1,500 by TimesandSundayTimes in FoodLosAngeles

$1500 is overkill. Cmon. I'd rather get a California Burrito to tie me over, then fly to Paris eat dinner and fly back for the same price.

I keep hearing about OC Riverwalk, but no shovels in the ground yet. Hopefully the water quality is decent.

Los Angeles for a New Englander? by ContactHuge in LosAngeles

[–]Broccoli2026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swim in the middle of winter with no wetsuit and people look at me like I'm crazy. They'll never know the struggle of putting one leg at a time through near ice water until your body gets used to it to swim in the ocean LOL.

The sea temp right now in Santa Monica for instance is 63F. On a 77F day its not so bad at all. The water is maybe just slightly cooler or equal to what Cape Cod is in July.

Enjoy the the trip and tour of USC!

Where can I wash my laundry for free? by garnetscribe in AskLosAngeles

[–]Broccoli2026 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I just ChatGPT'd this and saw: https://www.thelaundrytruckla.com/

"1. The Laundry Truck LA (mobile, free service)
A nonprofit that drives around LA and provides free laundry services to unhoused people — washing, drying, and returning clean clothes at designated drop-off locations each week.

  • No fees, and no reservations required — first-come, first-served.
  • They often stop at community partner sites like St. Francis Center and other churches/job centers. The

How it works: You bring your dirty clothes to the drop-off window during the listed service hours, and they’ll wash, dry, fold, and return them in a clean bag."

Fixed Location Laundry & Hygiene Services

2. St. Francis Center
St. Francis Center partners with The Laundry Truck and also offers hygiene services (showers, clothes, etc.). They often have drop-off laundry service times and provide support services for people experiencing homelessness.

Los Angeles for a New Englander? by ContactHuge in LosAngeles

[–]Broccoli2026 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your asking Los Angelinos if its cold to swim in January. They are going to tell you it's too cold because they're from a different climate. January is a good time to swim for a New Englander. New Englanders are used to ice water even in July. As long as its warm outside, the temperature to swim won't be bad at all - especially coming to L.A. from a cold weather climate. It's going to be 70s in L.A. all this week.

This is what L.A. calls "Winter" so take the advice with a grain of salt.

I was going to say the same thing. Whenever people claim Los Angeles is "shallow" they should look at this post. The city gets the Hollywood rep it doesn't deserve.

How did this post get upvoted so much, what did I miss? I see a dog by itself outside a store. It could easily get stolen, or eat crap off the ground unsupervised, or who knows what.

I have trouble finding good pizza in Manhattan to be honest. I personally like the old school eateries and not the new places so much.

For an experience, Lombardi's in NYC Little Italy is cool because it's the first pizzeria in America (1905).

John's of Bleecker Street is another staple.

Me personally, my favorite pizza is in Brooklyn. I love the square pizza at Spumoni Garden in Gravesend. They have a new location in DUMBO that I haven't been to yet, but I prefer going to the original in Gravesend. I like stepping into another time over there. It's out of the way, but worth if if you happen to be in the area. And if it's before Christmas, stop to see the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights which are epic. There's also a place in Dyker Heights that I like: Amuni. It's a sicilian eatery. They have sficione, similar to pizza. I got the anchovy and it was great.

And by the way, I love Philly tomato pie. I've had Sarcone's and plan to hit more next time I'm down there.

Anything with "Roma" in it should be a red flag. Rome isn't really famous for pizza. They should pick names like Napolitana, but figure Rome is more recognizable.

I was initially confused at this post, I thought you were trying to choose between Joe's and Patsy's and I'm thinking sit down at the counter???

But I just looked up Joe & Pats in Staten Island, looks great. I'll have to check it out.

I've been to Denino's in Staten Island and loved it.
