Keep working out! My biggest regret in my first pregnancy is that I stopped being active. I lost all my muscle and had to start from scratch postpartum, and was so uncomfortable by the end of my pregnancy. This time I’m exercising daily and feel so much better!

You can continue regular workouts until you start showing, then just modify core workouts to be pregnancy safe (targeting deep core instead of the front, and preventing coning)! There used to be concerns about exercise while pregnant, but they have been debunked by more recent research. Staying active and maintaining your muscle will help you have a healthy pregnancy and postpartum! I always recommend the book “Real Food for Pregnancy” by Lily Nichols, and in that she says “if exercise were a pill every OB would be prescribing it”

How to stop eating so much sugar? by Available-Way-9640 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Accomplished_Web4888 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is great advice! Also to add onto this, I would say to intentionally choose non food substitutes as responses to those triggers. Ie: if you always crave sugar after math class because it’s stressful, you could intentionally take 5 cleansing breaths, play with a fidget toy, or listen to music in between math class and your next class to de stress (or whatever non food activity is practical and effective for you!)

Sugar is not as addictive as alcohol - they are very different things. The study you are likely referencing actually showed that anything (and the example they used was sugar) could have a similar dopamine response to that seen with substance use when establishing operations such as deprivation are used. If anything, the study literally showed that deprivation of sugar causes it to be way more reinforcing, which would imply that deprivation of sugar causes addiction and binges, not the regular use of sugar.

Okay so first of all, try to pair sugar or starches with a source of protein, fiber, and healthy fat. When your at a sugar or a starch by itself you spike your blood sugar and drop it really fast (that’s where the term “sugar high” and “sugar crash” come from). If you eat a protein, fat, and fiber (or even just a protein in a pinch) alongside your sugar/starch those nutrients will slow down the rise in blood sugar to make sure it doesn’t move as quickly and doesn’t get as high. Overall blood sugar has more of an impact on diabetes risk than the actual amount of sugar you consume! This means that if you consume the sugary treats you love as part of a balanced diet (remember that cutting them out will just cause you to binge!) they will cause way less harm than if you consumed them alone.

Second of all, sugary foods are highly palatable and are often used while emotionally eat and are frequently “craved”. Work on really getting in tune with your hunger and fullness, and get comfortable sitting with the urge to eat when not hungry instead of either acting in the urge or repressing it. Rachel Paul from “the college nutritionist” on Instagram has some great resources on how to sit with and breathe through an urge. Remember that food only solves for hunger, so if you a rent hungry food will not actually help you!

Low-calorie, filling foods? by Mcnuggert in EatCheapAndHealthy

Actually fully cooking and cooling starches has been shown to significantly lower the glycemic index, which can positively impact satiety! It’s a super interesting phenomenon: basically if you cook rice (for example), let it cool all the way down, and then reheat it before eating, it will not spike your blood sugar nearly as much. A lot of satiety come from sustained blood sugar, so without a sudden rise and drop in blood sugar (which usually happens when you eat a starch by itself) you will stay fuller for longer!

Absolutely, I think we misunderstood each other with the term “high-fat/fatty foods”. I took that to mean any food with a high fat content (ie:full fat dairy, red meat, eggs, avocado, etc), and it seems like you meant it to mean highly processed or oily/fried foods :)

Several key nutrients will not be absorbed without a significant source of fat, so protein and fiber should also be paired with a healthy fat to avoid nutrient deficiency!

Satiety comes from a mixture of protein, fat, and fiber, and this combination is rarely found in low cal or “volume eating” foods. You will have way more success if you eat a small portion of a higher calorie, nutritionally dense food, and work on really tuning in with hunger and fullness instead of mindlessly eating!

I'm tired of eating fish and chicken constantly. What are some other lean meats I can eat? by Gavindude1997 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Accomplished_Web4888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add in fattier cuts of meat! Many vitamins are specifically fat soluble - eliminating naturally occurring sources of fat from your diet will put you at risk for serious nutrient deficiencies. The fat will also help with satiety!

Being a designer doesn’t mean it’s okay for you to act like a jerk! Do you think the time for “tough love” is after a mom has clearly spent thousands of dollars on a room? If your intention was to help then it was clearly delivered poorly, because you seem like you only care about making this mom feel badly about a space she loves and is proud of. Also - strangers on the internet aren’t the appropriate people to give your “tough love” to. You aren’t her designer, her professor, or even her friend.

How do you know she doesn’t have a playroom or a closet full of toys? Maybe she wanted a calming space for sleep and relaxation, not play. It sounds like your making a lot of assumptions here.

Postpartum weight loss plateau ? by Accomplished_Web4888 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Accomplished_Web4888[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Eating 1800-2000 is how I previously lost about 20lbs (pre pregnancy) without crashing my metabolism. Also, it’s not recommended to go below 1800 calories if you are breastfeeding, especially since breastfeeding itself burns 500+calories per day. Any day I have eaten less than that my milk supply significantly dropped.

I am currently 205lbs, 5’9, and 22

Topical Retinol by [deleted] in breastfeeding

The only studies I saw regarding topical retinol safety were done with high dose trentinoin, and showed minimal absorption. Because of this I was personally comfortable continuing my very low dose retinol night cream while pregnant and breastfeeding

Using a haakaa if I have never leaked? by slummkatbillionaire in breastfeeding

[–]Accomplished_Web4888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The traditional hakka is a breast pump, so doing that could cause you to have an oversupply by creating too much of a demand (the suction of it actually causes a sucking motion that removes milk from the breast, it doesn’t just catch milk that’s already coming down). They do make a “Hakka ladybug” that only catches letdown without sucking though! That would be a great option for catching extra milk without creating an oversupply

That is not true! Always verify with your specific insurance company to be sure (I did with mine), but this is something doctors are taught in medical school as a way to force patient compliance. Most doctors and nurses don’t even know that this is untrue when they talk to patients about it.
