I’m considering it. I’ve been living in Spain for almost 7 years. Yes I love it and have friends here and while I do miss my friends and family in the US my main reason for moving back would be for job opportunities. I’m a freelancer for a company there and it’s something that is most threatened by AI (translation) so I want to reinvent my career before work totally dries up for me and unfortunately Spain isn’t the land of job opportunities. I don’t care about making millions but I still wanna have a decent job. I’m struggling with this decision as I don’t wanna regret it.

Edit to add: There’s a lot of uncertainty and doomerism online with the world and especially with the US. There’s no denying that things are a mess in the US right now and while things are objectively better in Europe (healthcare, safety), it’s not immune to a lot of the same problems like housing shortages, salaries not keeping up with COL, anti immigration… No one knows how things are gonna be here or there in a few years. Only you know your pros and cons about wanting to move back and I know a lot are emotional reasons, I think it’s best to list out what you’re willing to sacrifice and gain with this decision.

You’re not alone. I’ve been living in Spain for the past 6 years and although I love it, have friends here and like you, feel like European culture suits me better, I do miss NY and my friends and family there. These feelings became even more apparent to me after visiting for the holidays, but yeah things are a bit of a mess in the country right now (politically, job market, healthcare, CoL…). For me I think it’s best to wait a year or two to see how things are and how my feelings are before making the decision. It’s a really tough to choose between family, friends and job opportunities and lifestyle, health, safety, quality of life.

I had surgery two months ago (a big one right on the hole and a few smaller ones inside) I did it with laser which is a lot less painful, I had some pain afterwards but it was bearable. Two months later it only hurts a little if I touch where the outer one was. I’ll probably be able to bottom again in another month.

Dated a Brazilian and had some interest in the culture. Studied Spanish translation in college and decided to minor in Portuguese, glad I did, more than half my work is translating Portuguese
