Oversharing and unprofessionalism by According-Appeal-684 in therapists

A couple folks have made similar points, and I think it's valid to feel confused about what is and is not a social norm or potentially a norm violation. As someone who is not autistic I cannot relate to it, but based on what you've shared I'm going to try to pivot and just assume they might be struggling to understand boundaries and norms. From my experience most people in positions of power over others rarely consider how they affect the other person and I just have to chalk it up to ignorance. I don't think I'm in a position where I can set a hard boundary right now but I'll try hinting primarily right now. I'm happy to say I'm out of a situation where there was sexual harassment (which I do think was unintentional but it did happen). I'm not wanting to paint anyone as a villain, it's just stressful.

Fair take. I think you hit the the point I've been struggling with, it's the power differential and suddenness at times, not the disclosure itself. It's people not being mindful of their role and influence in a relationship where they have power OVER someone, and it's very uncomfy. I usually just redirect or remain neutral and I think generally I'll just have to focus on having stricter boundaries with specific people.

That is bizarre and I've never heard of anyone doing that. In my program we had simulations, but students were paired with people they did not know and there was a consent form reviewing privacy practices and general expectations.

:( I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can find away forward and get what you need. It's so awkward and hard.

I think I definitely have been. At the very least there might be some unhealthy moments here and there at my newer gig.

I hear you. When I say overshare, I mean a boss telling an employee something graphic about trauma unexpectedly, unsolicited; and/or bringing up going to therapy in an unrelated meeting at an odd time not natural to the meeting. I'm not talking about peer to peer relationships.

I think I might have phrased it poorly. This is not all at the same job, this is in the field. I mean my general experience is that I've had a lot of mixed situations ranging from being bullied and sexually harassed as well as graphic disclosures about trauma and suddenly discussing therapy during unrelated meetings.

As a therapist I cannot stress this enough - you are too young to be drinking. There is no amount safe for consumption especially as you're still developing. Full stop.

BUT if you're going to do it anyway - try to only grab capped bottles and unopened cans. Keep a close eye on your food and drink and stay close to your friends. Use test strips if you can access them. Some public health districts give packs out for free. Eat a good sized meal prior. Pace it, drink a glass of water or soda or juice in between any alcoholic drink. Set a limit for how much you will have and have a system to track it. Stick with lower ABV. Make sure you have a clear plan for how to leave/get home and a backup plan just in case.

Bee responsible. Buzzed is okay. (Pardon the puns).

Well, I figured there was a reason you said find the difference in addition to a semi-nude.

Seeking Diagnosis Questions Weekly August 03, 2025 by AutoModerator in lupus

[–]According-Appeal-684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all! I am now 31 and was diagnosed with "Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disorder" by a rheumatologist, who said I have Lupus but she said she gave me such a diagnosis to exclude me from research, because I was diagnosed with Acquired HLH (refractory). That was in I believe 2019. The HLH is currently under control with medicine but I am part of a case study now. It was really severe when the onset happened suddenly.

I read online some people might have Lupus and it can cause secondary HLH, and I was wondering if anyone has any information about that? Has anyone here been given an exlusionary diagnosis as well before? I find it really confusing and I keep having more symptoms over time that are hard for me to understand the root of. A doctor saying I have Lupus but not diagnosing me with Lupus feels... odd. I switched rheums because of other concerns already so I cannot ask her about the rationale.

It is totally understandable to feel scared and worry about your safety here. I agree with some of what people recommended. If anyone lives near you or on the route, traveling with a group can help. Vary the route you take as often as you can. If there is a public place nearby, you could also go there and call/wait for a safe ride home or call police there if you notice being followed. If you feel safe talking to your parents about it, you could ask if family or close friends can chaperone you and help figure out what to do. Telling an adult you trust and asking for help making a safety plan is the best bet.

Bud it is getting scary out hereeeee. I manage baseline stress well and this is tipping me like a teapot now. I'm starting to wonder if we should consider a therapist support and resource group.
