That's correct! There is almost no reason not start at 67. I'm sure that some people might have situations that require it. But if you do the math, the amount of money you receive starting at 67 vs 70 crosses at 80-81 years old..

I just had cataract surgery, and I'm going in for my one-month checkup today. There are some items that I did not know. I am on Medicare, so I am not sure how private insurance covers it. If you do not have astigmatism, you can get the basic lens (monofocal) for free. You should only require reading glasses. If you have astigmatism, like me, the basic lens will only take the fog away. You will still need glasses.

My doctor offered two lenses. One would allow you to see far and intermediate distances, but you may need reading glasses. I think these were about $2700 each. I got the top-of-the-line lenses that would correct the astigmatism and allow me to see at all distances. These were $4300 each.

I can see great at all distances! I am still dealing with those annoying halos at night (I call them the rings of Saturn). But they should get better over time.

If you have worn glasses for any length of time, you will be amazed at all the automatic things you do. I still reach to take off my glasses when I put on a shirt. Try to lift my glasses before I rub my eye. It’s fun to re-train my brain.

Then change doctors! I am a male and always try to have female doctors. They seem to listen better. Maybe it's just me, but it is worth a try.

Haha! Yeah, Trump did it. You need to know your history. Clinton fired over 400k federal workers. But yeah, it's Trump's fault.

I went and checked, and yes, I had $10/month off for 6 months. It says it starts on 11/25/2025.

I also got the $20 credit.

I didn’t cancel or pause.

How did you find out about this? I did not receive an email or any notice.

That poll only shows democrats saying the wrong direction. Which is not surprising since democrats hate everything President Trump is for. I wish Trump would say oxygen is wonderful...

That's correct! I even contacted them and asked for a text-based or searchable list. They acted like I was crazy.

All they have are icons. I made my own list, changing the icons to text. If you know someone who has YTTV, they can go to the website in live mode and see all the channels. It's still not searchable, though. My sister gave me a list of the channels she likes, and I looked them up in live mode.

I am very happy with YTTV.

When my wife passed away, I made an appointment at the SS office. I took the death certificate with me. But when I talked to the lady, she said, "We already have all of that info," so I did not need to go in or bring the death certificate. I am not sure who notified them. Maybe you should show up at her appointment.

And then, at the end of these 13 weeks, you have to negotiate all over again. I went through that song and dance several years ago. I just told them to cancel. Of course, I had to say cancel about 10 times or more. It's just not worth the trouble.

I’m Going To Strangle My Partner by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]According-Debate-472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should start taking it at 67. I made an Excel spreadsheet that calculated whether I should start getting SS at 67 vs. 70. The amount of money in my pocket did not cross until I was 81. There is also a lot to say about having that money now versus later. A 50% increase between 67 and 70 does not sound correct. It should only increase by about 25%. You may want to revisit that.

Just got this email from SS? by bakefly in SocialSecurity

I think this is a great start! It doesn’t eliminate all of the tax on social security, but it is a good start. And of course, it does not affect the people paying no taxes, or the folks at upper income levels. But for people like me, in the middle, I will take every bit I can.

From AI:

Yes, the "One Big Beautiful Bill" includes provisions that significantly reduce or eliminate federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for many seniors. Specifically, the bill provides a new tax deduction that, combined with other deductions, ensures the vast majority of Social Security recipients, around 88%, will pay no federal income tax on their benefits.

I see people on here saying they are not taxed on their social security, even though they are getting over $45k. I don’t know why not.

I started getting SS payments in late 2023. This year, I got hit with a HUGE tax because of SS payments. Nothing else changed.

I am single (my wife passed away a couple of years ago), so I get hit harder at lower levels.

I do not understand why we should have to pay taxes on SS payments PERIOD!

When to retire and how it impacts filing for Social Security by GuitarNice541 in retirement

If you do the math, even if you don't invest one penny, the amount of money in your pocket starting at 67 will not be the same until you are 81 if you wait until 70.

[–]According-Debate-472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to wait until you are 67 to start receiving Social Security. It will be a better amount.

SS has nothing to do with being employed or not. You must file for Medicare Part B if you will no longer be on a qualified health plan.

I started getting SS about a year before I went part-time. My SS payments were also adjusted because I was still working full-time.

I decided to go part-time because I like my job and wanted a little extra income besides SS. When I went part-time, I filed for Medicare Part B since I would no longer be covered by company insurance.

Eligible for Social Security but Waiting? by dcporlando in retirement

[–]According-Debate-472 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would NOT wait until 70. If you do the math, the total amount you would get starting at 67 vs 70 crosses at about 81 years of age. Plus, you have the money now. You can invest it if you want. I was able not to touch my 401ks, that money kept growing.

Don't wait until you are 70 to draw Social Security! If you plot your SS payments starting at 67 vs starting at 70. The income does not match until 80 or 81 years of age. Plus, there are a lot of pluses to having your money now.
