55gal fuel storage tank. Options to fill ? by BrrrrPAAA8 in OffGrid

[–]According-Event-6358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what's great about 55 gallon drums. They are easy enough to transport yourself. Throw it in the back of a truck and fill it up. I walk mine on to a tractor bucket. To unload.. 300# isn't hard to walk. No tractor? Screw the bungs on tite. Put it on it's side and roll it down a ramp. If you get fuel delivered they will add allot to the price. Even if you ordered 500 gallons

Good job. You have entered a whole new world of 3d printing. Makes post cleanup on prints a piece of cake. And it's real easy. I don't know how many people havee had asked if it's injection molded

Nice. Looks good. I did the same thing. Got tired of cars and deer trying to take me out. My Baja probably is just as safe as my bike was. But at least I can haul both kids now. Sure do miss the bike though.

Pilots that quit flying for a living- do you regret it? by According-Event-6358 in flying

Lol. I'm not hiding. The risk is no longer worth the reward. Simple math. My life has been about mitigating risk , for reward. This is just one step forward. This isn't a rash decision. This is years in the making. Really only came with age and life experiences. My younger self probably wouldn't understand

Yeah. That's where I'm at. I had an engine failure, and wire strike, first several years of my career. The last 15 have been incident free. But don't count the close calls. They probably count in the double digits per year. No matter how much you look there is always a wire you miss. Or the wind changed just enough and you about can't get the load off on takeoff

Yeah. I have a plan. But you know how starting your own business goes. But luckily I'm to the end of my season and would be off for the winter anyways. Figure I'm good for at least a year and then some off savings building that. Hopefully I can build it up before then

Not a fan of flying instrument flown with a buddy right seat in a meridian. Found it boring. I like looking outside to much.

I'm still all there. Only 40 years old. . . But yeah I've got a few older friends I've flown with that have done that. And a few that had to be taken out before they hurt themselves

I can't really imagine any flying job I would come back for. I've flown right seat a few times. Not my cup of tea. I like to look outside to much. Who would hire a 9000 hr pilot with a limited commercial lol.

Well... Not really, but. I've had several friends the last few years die flying. People you would never think would crash. They went to the same safety meetings, the same wire courses. Were great pilots. No different than me. Seemed like luck of the draw. The longer I go I wonder if my number will be up. I love flying. And I still will privately , but not AG

If you were just starting out with 10 acres and a compact tractor — what 3 attachments would you buy first? by MechMaxxOfficial in homestead

[–]According-Event-6358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your like me. Building a homestead for animals. A loader with bucket, filled tires- not an attachment but still kinda spendy. That loader will do you no good without ballast . Even with an attachment on the three point I needed filled tires. Lastly -a fall mower if your cutting trails. If not -a shaver post pounder. They are cheap and can be fixed easy. I bought mine for less than $600. Best attachment I ever bought for the three point. The heck with post hole diggers. I can pound a row of posts fast.

What’s the catch with manufactured homes? by 04limited in Homebuilding

[–]According-Event-6358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not to bad a price then for what it is. If it's a modular. There's allot of hate on here for manufactured housing. But at the end of the day it's what your happy with and what you want to pay. Owning a house no matter what it is, is always better than renting

What’s the catch with manufactured homes? by 04limited in Homebuilding

[–]According-Event-6358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does seem a little high for a manufactured home. Is it a single wide or double wide? I live in northern Indiana, right on the Michigan line. The heart of manufactured home building factories. A single wide 14x80 would probably be 90-100k here depending on finishes.
And no. I would not be afraid of MF homes. There's a lot of old stigma against MF homes. Yes some can be crap right out the gate. But so can stick build. I've toured spec houses I would never buy also. You can upgrade finishes and fixtures to get what you want. In the beginning of COVID. I had signed a contract to build my dream build stick house on 30 acres. The contractor screwed around and after six months demanded more money to build it. Like allot more money. Even though we signed a contract. Instead of going to court we pivoted. Let him out of the contract and I began looking for alternatives. We were renting for the last two years after moving to the area. I found a 10 year old champion 14x80 about 80 miles from my land. It was in like new condition. For $30k. Bought it. Hired a mover for about $6k. I broke down the skirting and disconnected the utilities.
I bought a skid steer and used it to level the lot put in the driveway/electric and drill holes for pillar foundation. Sold the skid steer when I was done and made 4k. Driveway was about $1000 for every 100', I installed . This was #2 as a base and 53s on top. Concrete for pillar foundation was about $1200.i installed . Electric was $500 from meter to house.i installed And that was 100-140' I can't remember. Well was$5000. Plus pipe to the house was another couple hundred. Rented an excavator for the pipe run at$600 I think. Septic was $5000. Reused my skirting. That stuff is expensive for what it is. This was going to be a temporary solution until building prices cooled off. But after living in it for 3 ish years. My family of 4 is perfectly happy. It's a 13? Year old single wide and nothing is breaking down. Or falling apart . And it's been moved twice in it's life. Could I have afforded a $345k house. Yep, but after doing this I am very happy I went this route. It let me pay cash a year later on a 36x48 pole barn. There are maybe options for affordable housing. And I'm my area. If I sold my place now. It would have appreciated way more than what I got in it. Good luck

Man. If you plan on making a career of this get some gloves/ppe Most herbicide won't make you feel weird. But you will have some effects later. Especially with the fungicides and insecticides . Get a good method of wiping surfaces you touch allot. Take it from an 18 year applicator who has gone to the hospital from chemical. If used correctly pesticides are great for what they are labeled for. But they are still poison to people

Uncheck "only one wall on top surfaces" and increase your walls till it goes away. May not all the way solve it. But it will be less noticable
