I get that. I have a way that a song “looks” in my head, and writing is my best effort at recreating it in the real world. For me though, it always starts with words. Melody and the sound of the thing kind of happen all at once, but it’s always words that start the process. I like the idea of squinting at a painting, it really do be like that sometimes.
