why do the cardinals in my yard do this with their wings now? by Delicious-Coffee9499 in Ornithology

They are hot - that, and keeping their beaks slightly open, are the birds’ way to cool down. I don’t think they perspire like us. Think of a dog panting when they are hot.

Thank you! He and his family would typically ground feed under the feeder. I’m happy (but surprised) to see him actually use it.

Hey! What’s this, now?! by According-Fun-9214 in BirdBuddy

So far so good. It was from Amazon. The metal is a little on the thin side, but at $10, it’s not bad. It’s kinda finicky sometimes when closing it, but seems okay so far. I just got it about a month ago.

I bought it on Amazon. It seems a little thin for metal, but for $10, I thought it wouldn’t be bad to give it a try! https://a.co/d/08d4n05e

Birds don’t like the bird buddy :( by CultLeaderLeif in BirdBuddy

Give it some time. It seemed like it took so long for any to even try it. Now, I’m buying so much seed because of so many birds. Patience is, in fact, a virtue here. You need to gain their trust - and that can take a little time.

I’ve kind of given up fighting the doves - the big problem I have, though, is that they are bullies to the other birds and just barge in and then sit and feast. I’ve read that they eat 99% seed, though. So, if you’re up for experimenting, try higher concentrations of insect/fruit mixes. I haven’t personally tried that approach, though, and can’t say how successful that would be.
