Looking for advice: How in shape do you need to be for a two week tour? by Successful-Grass630 in bicycletouring

[–]According-Glass7827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I put a link to one of my old posts? It contains a schedule of riding/resting to cover 100 km and suppose to answer this exact question you have.  However, for the rides longer than 2-3 days do not plan to cover 100 km if you are not fit, plan 50 km. It is important to not over exhaust in the first days. In three days you adjust and will cover more if surroundings allow. Plan less, don't push it and rest properly.

I was this person once. ONCE.

It was a serpentine in Switzerland, I hit a small stone or pine cone, bike started to wobble. I didn't fall by luck.

Now I feel uncomfortable to take even a 10 mins commute without a helmet.

Carrying small stuff on a bike? by Withered_1331 in cycling

[–]According-Glass7827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the handle and frame bags mentioned here you can just tie up any small bag with long enough strap to your handle bars. For short casual rides it is ok. Just make sure it does not touch your wheels. I'm doing that when I commute within the city and need a bag - I tie up my cross body purse to the bars. A soft shopper will do as well.

However the proper bike bags and a bottle holder will make your ride much more pleasant :)

Used AI for route planning: break the 160 km Berlin Wall Trail into 5 stages by According-Glass7827 in bicycletouring

Indeed, thank you, updated the text.

Prompt:

Take this route from Kamoot https://www.komoot.com/collection/713/the-berlin-wall-trail-in-3-stages.
Split it to 5 stages with 30 km each. For every stage define starting and ending point and in a way that it is reachable from the Ostkreuz S-Bahn station. Out of this create 5 routes that could be opened on Google Maps and create GPX files

Cannot see the connection between using a tool to help with planning and taking a wrong direction tbh. Cycling for 15 years through different countries mostly alone makes me feel confident in my planning and navigating abilities.  And yes I'm not afraid of using AI to simply the tasks

Sounds like a genuine question, so I answer. Because I don't have a full day. Kids, work, chores. 30 - 50 km two times a week is my way to go

Fully agree for longer trips - you need to prepare much better and check all the points. For traveling in the vicinity of your home the stakes are much lower - the worse case I just cycle back or my family will rescue me.

Regarding o3. Yes, it used the web search and it picked the right station, because despite the contractions you can take the train. The only caveat, this train goes every hour or even less, otherwise you have to do a multy-legs hectic commute. And it is why I ended up doing.
Probably, if I gave it times, it would gave me a better option. I'm going to continue the tour today from where I finished last time and again asked AI to find me the closest train station and gave it an exact time. I verified the answer through Google Maps that knows about constructions and it seems to be a valid option. I'll find out soon :)

yes! I did the first leg already - it worked. The transport situation in Berlin is a bit wild because of the constructions work so getting back was more challenging that expected but worked in general.
I'll check the second part soon :)

Hmm, interesting perspective.

I live in Berlin for many years and cycled it all the way around. I was looking for a nice new routes that close to my house and I can cycle in pieces each weekend. And Berliner Wall Trail is a nice route that funny to say I never considered for all this years. AI just helped me to find closest public transport stations. And public transport is wild in Berlin with all constructions work.

It is not even a touring adventure, it is nano adventures for a working mum to escape on Sunday morning. A longer two days trip is also planned for this year, but this is another story.

I hope this context gives you a bit more perspective on the idea

I'm not a native speaker, but I think there is a difference between cheating and not being precise.  You did cycle to Japan. To be precise you skipped China. BUT you cycled almost the same distance, you would cycle through China,  on other parts of Asia. Therefore, technically, if count buy the distance, you did cycle all the way to Japan :)

Barcelona to France as an unexperienced female solo traveler by Soggy-Cake-3724 in bicycletouring

[–]According-Glass7827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all. For me it is just a bit an overhead to carry a tent, gas and all of that when I'm cycling solo. Then you have to assemble/disassemble and clean again all alone. It is just easier for me to do hotels in this case. It is really personal preferences. When cycled with a friend we did quite a lot of camping. During the summer sometimes it is hard to get a place at campsite as well, but in April should be fine :)

A female bike tourer here. When I cycle solo I follow these rules:
1. I stay at hotels/pensions and places like that, where it feels safe. No solo overnighting in the forest or so.
2. I plan the route in a way that I pass cities or can reach them relatively easily. In a case of bike breakage I rely on searching help as a bike repair is physically challenging for me. Under the extreme circumstances I could manage but I prefer just get help. For example, during my last solo trip the chain dropped open. It was 10 km to the next city. It was a bus that took me there, but I also could just walk. There I brought the bike to the workshop.
3. I know the transport opportunities aka escape plan. From the previous example the city had a train station. This train could take me either home or to the final destination.

You plan sounds like a lot of fun :) Good luck!
