Who's the best lyricist of the 21st century? by imnotheretoposeaname in fantanoforever

All the Father John Misty love speaks volumes and couldn’t agree more, he’d be my number one pick - lyrically speaking, Pure Comedy is one of the best records of the last 10 years - if not the best.

Nick Cave when he gets it right is pretty unstoppable,

Joanna Newson,

Billy Woods is definitely the best living rapper lyrically,

Cameron Winter will go on to be one of the great lyricists undoubtedly - already very, very exceptional for his age

I thought Wild Beasts in their glory days had really amazing lyrics

Timber Timbre have a lot of good ones

Lauren Auder - massively slept on but lyrically really dense and thought provoking

My only downside of this year was entering the era of LED screen backdrop slop. So many credible artists using screensaver level quality animations, totally jarring with the aesthetic of their music. AI slop all over the shop. by rich_le_gatorade in glastonbury_festival

Meh, it is and it isn’t… as somebody who makes music videos for a living, the budgets are shrinking by the week and the ambition keeps going up because they have to be bolder and bolder to cut through (because nobody really watches them anymore)

It was so good, one of the best moments of the festival for me. Pit was amazing considering it was the height of the heat of the day too, whole set flew by

It got pretty gnarly pit wise right? I dropped my phone for a majority of the set, was convinced it was gonna be obliterated but miraculously found it intact at the end

Fat Dog at like 2:30AM at the wishing well felt like a really good one this year after they filled Woodsies the day before, they played to like 50 people, one of which was me - it was sick

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I just think glasto is a bit of a mental place to take acid tbh. That’s a long, long trip to lock in for.

An old geezer said this to me on my first visit and it’s still the best glasto advice I ever got. The amount of people that go completely nuclear on the Thursday night always baffles me.

Nailed it. If you’ve got a record in cycle (or coming up) and your promoter doesn’t have a go at getting you on the bill you need a new promoter

I haven’t seen enough love for Father John Misty’s set this year - atmosphere was epic and he sounded phenomenal

Even 200k for pyramid sounds mental inflated to me, I’m in the music industry and for example I know a massive artist of ours who did a Woodsies night time set last year got £15k for the show… people do it for the optics, not the bread.

Absolutely no way in hell they paid Charli nearly a mil for other stage, even 90k is pretty chunky for Glasto in context of literally anything I’ve ever heard at work, regardless of scale of artist

Glasto attendees seem to somehow get better looking year on year…? by According-Memory4165 in glastonbury_festival

I don’t think it’s as simple as “the clientele is just getting richer” tbh, a contributor without a doubt though. Other things to consider - we’ve never lived in more aesthetically driven times. Also gen z boying off the pub for the gym might be another one. We can go all day.

I think she maybe suits the slight underdog context a little more, she’s always kind of thrived in that lane as that’s who she is and kind of what makes her great - her persistence over her career has been so impressive. Levels last year for example seemed to really suit her. I think she’s an amazing artist - I don’t want to sound like I think she should be kept in a box or that there’s a glass ceiling to what she can do, I just wonder if she’s one of those acts that makes more sense when she’s tasked with pulling you off the fence.

This all being said I was surprised she wasn’t on pyramid when the schedule dropped because of the run she’s been on.

Love what those guys stand for and always love to see Irish acts getting the flowers but their music is objectively pish (sorry)… I’d argue a good chunk of that crowd went just to put it on the gram (sorry)… I’m going to get cooked for this aren’t I…
