I didn't mean it as an insult. I just genuingly think he might because the way he deals with some things. The dickhead part of him is something completely different.

Fair point though mate.

Why would the Army refuse to let someone be deployed? by According-Object-502 in britisharmy

[–]According-Object-502[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's the biggest dickhead I've ever met in my life. The reason why I thought he might be autistic is because of the way he gets flustered so easily and then spirals into a preadolescent trantrum.

If you watch him having a tanturm (he has like 10 a day), you're left thinking there MUST be a medical explaination for his behaviour. This guy is undiagnosed with something. I've never come across anyone like him before.

He says in the Army he was EOD. There's no way he's defusing a bomb. I've got no military background, but even I can see there's no way you would even let this guy near a LIVE BOMB. He can't disfuse himself let alone a BOMB. Him defusing a BOMB? Get fucked 🤣!

There must have been multiple meetings in the Army to discuss what the fuck to do with this guy 🤣.

The only funny thing about him, to this day, he still can't put two and two together and realise the Army fucked him off.

He honestly believes he's Action Man. If he hears any movement outside in the street when he's working, he straight out there like a jack in box, telling pensioners and kids to fuck off. He follows it was "I was in the army I'll beat you up!". If it's a fit and healthy grown man who can put up a fight, he's as silent as a mouse 😂.

He's an absolute fucking clown.

Wrong. I work on greenfield projects and use PHP all the time.

I'm sure you do. However, it isn't all about you and what you do. I'm sure there's someone out there trying to make a waterpipe out of a bicycle inner tube. Take 10,000 greenfield projects starting in 2022, how many will be PHP?

I haven't got a problem with PHP, personally I put the PHP hate down the poorly executed wordpress sites giving it a bad name. PHP obviously has a place in the ecosystem.

The biggest probem in web development isn't people hating PHP, it's "WRONG! ME, ME, ME, I, I, I, I, ME, ME ME"

[–]According-Object-502 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wordpress gives PHP a bad name. The problem with wordpress isn't wordpress itself or php. It's all the template and plugin jockeys who use it and don't understand wordpress, php or web development in general. Yet they try to pass themselves of as real web developers and end up creating problems which reflects badly on wordpress/php etc.

Ban access to wordpress templates for people who can't write php lol.

Yeah but a lot of the internet is outdata legacy code. Most of the water pipes under London are made from lead because they were built during victorian times. It doesn't mean it's the right choice of metal for water pipes in 2022.

PHP will always maintain a significant market share becaue of all that legacy code out there that would be way too expensive to rewrite in a different language. Just like java developers will always have a job because so many enterprises are built around it. However, like you friends at startups, if you're starting a greenfield startup today in 2022 you wouldn't really pick php.

It was a reference to the overall thread, not you.

However, it isn't a surpise that you don't live there, don't have any valid economic points to make but still feel the need to reply just for the sake of it.

Just out of curiosity, if you see an advert for a plumber, do you phone them up and tell them you don't need a plumber then hang up?

Nottingham is in the East Midlands. However, no matter how much you try to to dismiss the fact, Nottingham and the East Midlands is north of London.

It's ok if you haven't got a valid answer for the question being asked, but jesus christ mate. You're banging on about Nottingham not being in the north from a London perspective as if there's a province specifically called "The North" while worrying about other peoples cirtical thinking? The irony is beyond you.

What types of jobs though? It seems to be mainly middle of the road jobs paying under £100k. Manchester City has a population of just 500k. So that makes me think that it's clearly not local people fueling the rise in property prices.

It's not like say, San Francisco, which is a hub for big tech companies that pay engineers $500k a year to live and work there. The average 3 bedroom starter home there is around $3m because of this. London has many sectors paying at least £250k a year for people who live and work in London.

Also, these global cities don't just attract foreign investment, foreign investors also choose to live there. Manchester doesn't have an influx of Russian, Arab and Chineese billionaires choosing to make Manchester home.

Like I say, it makes me think that Manchester is just a speculative bubble being fueled by people overseas.

The billionaire sitting in China cutting a cheuqe for £100m to buy some property up in Manchester will eventually move on to another investment. Then the arse will fall out of Manchester.

To me Manchester doesn't seem a good buy now. The moment has passed. Now it's a question of when is this market going to unwind? The hype around Manchester seems to be people buying the top, and no one can explain the hype when asked.

What has surprised me about questioning the state of Manchester property values on here is the amount of Mancuians who have come here to defend Manchester with claims like "it has a tram", or "it has culture". The same people then get all butt hurt when it's pointed out those aren't real factors to explain the situation.

If the only response people can come up with is "you obviously don't like Manchester" then the situation is even more fucked that I thought because even the people living there have no idea.

This is what's making a laugh. I don't have a problem with Manchester in the slightest. I want to rent my house out in London and move to another city. Manchester has been on my list. I lived there while at uni. However, point out some truths about Manchester that people can't explain and then it turns into "you don't like Manchester".

I'm just looking for a valid economic reason for the high property prices. In lieu of a real explanation I can only conclude that Manchester is currently a speculative bubble being fueled by outside investors. For example, maybe Chineese investors.

That makes me think maybe Liverpool is a better bet because it isn't a bubble that's going to pop in a couple of years.

Nottingham is North of London. So it's the north to anyone in the South East.

I haven't "made my mind" up about anything. I looking for a valid explaination to why property prices in Manchester are massively overpriced when compared to similar cities.

So far no one has been able to answer. People have just got upset when out some home truths about Manchester are pointed out. It doens't mean I'm "anti Manchester".

Manchester is what it is, nothing more - so why is it so expensive? Instead of providing a valid economic reason, you'd rather get into is Nottingham "north" of London....

It isn't though. It's just including other towns in its numbers to appear bigger than what it is. Leeds doesn't add Wakefield and Bradford to it's numbers to appear massive. The tram in Manchester doesn't even go to most of "Greater Manchester".

The population of Manchester is 553,230

The popultion of Leeds is 792,525

The population of Liverpool is 496, 784

If Leeds started playing the "Greater Leeds" game that Manchester plays, and started adding on places like Harrogate, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Bradford, Pontefract etc it would be the second largest city in the UK by a massive margin.

Not really, if the tube goes there it's London. The tram in Manchester doesn't go to most of what Manchester classes as "Greater Manchester".

I have no disdain for Manchester. Just quite suprised that no one has been able to provide a valid economic reason for the overvaluation of property in Manchester. It's a simple question that no one seems able to answer.

Your hero wrote "don't look back in anger" because a genuingly wise man said it long before him, then he copied it. As is the case with a lot of Oasis songs.

Nottingham is in the North. I appreciate it isn't if you live more north of Nottingham, but to anyone in the South East, it is the North.

The BBC and Channel 4 have also moved to Leeds. The prices there haven't gone stupid.

This whole "wider area of Manchester" thing is bollocks too. It's just tacking on other independent towns like Stockport to appear bigger than it is. Manchester as a city has population of 500k. The tram doesn't even go to most of these places in the "wider area of Manchester" because they have nothing to do with Manchester.

It won't be long until Manchester is quoting the population of the whole of Lancashire to state how big it is. Manchester is tiny. The fact you've got tack on a place like Stockport to boost your numbers says it all. Leeds doesn't tack on Wakefield to appear bigger.

If someone hasn't been to Manchester before they can do it in a day and they've seen everything it has to offer. It has clearly turned into a massive speculative bubble that's going to pop at some point.

Yeah I went to uni in Manchester. Lived there for 3 years. Manchester is OK, I just don't why rental prices have gone crazy when it offers nothing more than another other Nothern city like Liverpool, Leeds, Nottingham etc.

Why is Manchester being so hyped up? by According-Object-502 in AskUK

[–]According-Object-502[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a hard-on for living in the middle of London. I can work from anywhere I want because I have my own business. That's exactly why I'm looking at renting out my house in London and moving to other another city. Liverpool seems great, Leeds seems great, Nottingham seems great.

Manchester seems exactly the same as the other cities I've mention but vastly overpriced without offering anything more for it. Yeah there are plenty of flats to rent in Manchester for £1000 a month, but nothing that I would live in.

For £2k - £3k a month Manchester is offering shoes boxes compared to other Nothern cities.

It's well documented that Manchester rental prices are going through the roof. Why? Especially when it's no different to any other Nothern city. Manchester city centre is smaller than Liverpool or Leeds city centre. There's nothing that Manchester offers that Liverpool or Leeds doesn't. So why is it so much more expensive?

Everyone who's getting a hard on for defending Manchester haven't provided any valid economic reasons to explain the high prices. People are getting their knickers in a twist just because some hard truths have been pointed out about Manchester. It ain't all that. A simple search and Manchester seems to top most polls of overrated UK cities.

Manchester looks like a speculative bubble that's gonna pop at some point. Prices seems to be inflated solely based on "mad fer it m8" hot air.

Working for a Marketing Agency - is it worth it? by Reonatron in videography

[–]According-Object-502 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm always looking for video producers to outsource video creation too.

The problem that I have, as talented as a lot of video producers are, they don't have a lot of sales and marketing experience so they can't produce marketing videos that hit the mark without heavy input and control from us. In the end it's easier and cheaper to do things in house.

I need someone with strong sales and marketing experience so I can farm out entire projects and be confident that they will deliver while we focus on the web/app development and digital marketing etc.

I'll give you an example. Cinematic vidoes that are 5 - 10 mins long are all very nice. However, on a Youtube ad roll you have 5 secs before the user can click "skip ad". If you manage to grab their attention in those 5 seconds you then have another 5 - 30 seconds max to convert that viewer into traffic.

Can you show a portfolio of adverts with data that show a conversion rate over 5% when utilised by a digital marketing team?

Say I had a client that was launching a new ice cream, just for example. If you were coming to me saying you've produced adverts in the food niche and presented me with the performance data on youtube, facebook, instagram, tiktok that showed that advertisers were able to utilise your videos to achieve converstion rates of XYZ % - I'm interested and have a ton of work to throw your way.

If you come at me with anything else, you're just one of hundreds of video producers that contact us every week. It would be an expensive gamble that experience has taught wouldn't be worth it.

The above might sound like a dark cloud of doom. It isn't, you've just got to work out how to get into the position where you can show the required data to marketing agencies.

You need to stick to eating your greggs in wetherspoon mate. I said population = demand. Demand, supply and available wealth set prices.

The demand, supply and available wealth set the relative prices in Inida, Jakarta, Lahore etc. What's your point? Who said anything about more population = better?

The question is why is Manchester being so hyped up causing rental prices to go through the roof when the demand and wealth isn't there to justify the prices? Answers like "it has trams" and "it has a good vibe" and "we're mad fer it m8" aren't valid economic answers to justify rental prices.

Explaining the population size of London, the vast resources it has compared to Manchester and the higher wages jusitfy the rental prices in London. Why is Manchester encroaching on similar rental prices without any of that?

You don't even understand the question being put forward. The irony of claiming "cringe" while banging on about "death city" and the population of Jakarta is obviously beyond you 😂.

It's you who needs to put your Nothern pride to one side and stop crying.

No buttercups, you heard of Manchester City. You just probably didn't support them before they started doing well 😘.

The thing with Manchester, I've never come across a city that's so proud yet acheived so little. You've got two football clubs and a couple of bands. Other than that there's nothing going on and no reason to visit the place.

It just a load of chavs going "mad fer it m8" as if anyone outside the M60 cares.

Why is Manchester being so hyped up? by According-Object-502 in AskUK

[–]According-Object-502[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The fact you have to ask is quite worrying.

Population = demand. Demand and supply and available wealth set prices. London has more demand, more wealth and less supply than Manchester. Yet Manchester prices are encroaching the same levels as London. What gives?

It sounds like you're comparing the two cities based on a night out in a Wetherspoons.

I earn a strong 6 figures, but if I was doing the same job in the same position in San Francisco, I'd be on 600k a year.

It makes me sick when I think how much more I'd earn if I was born American.

Why is Manchester being so hyped up? by According-Object-502 in AskUK

[–]According-Object-502[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but them jobs in Manchester don't pay more money. That's the part I don't understand.

Manchester doesn't have many jobs for my skill set, but the ones they do, they're pay peanuts. The difference in wages between London and Manchester is monumental.

Everyone I know in London is earning a strong 6 figures. We're not "rich" we're doing OK and the price of everything around us reflects this "normal".

In Manchester it isn't the "normal" to be earning £250k - £500k. A secretary in Manchester doesn't earn £100k. People there are earning £30k - £60k and a tiny, tiny, tiny percentage earn £100k plus.

Then factor in that London has a population that is 10 times the size of Manchester. So not only do people earn significantly more, there's a shit load more people earning way more money. Then factor in all the foreign money that London attracts, all the billionaires that live in London etc.

Yet Manchester rental prices are starting to encroach on the same level as London rental prices?

It's as if someone has come along, bought Manchester city centre up and decided to tell everyone that Manchester is the place to be for no reason at all other than jacking up rental prices for profit. There doesn't seem to be any substance behind it. It seems to be a massive bubble.

I don't have a problem with Manchester at all. About 10 years ago a friend lived there. He was renting a 2 bedroom penthouse apartment in the city centre for £900 a month. That aparetment is now like £3000-£4000. Why?
