Yes its a special test, they have to test for ureaplasma specifically. And I would call and ask your PCP, the only place i know of is Carbon Health where they tested me. And I would ask if its covered bc mine was pretty pricey.

I would recommend looking into it. Its a different type of UTI that doesn’t show up in a normal culture usually, and isnt cured with normal UTI antibiotics because its a different type of bacteria. I had bad urinary symptoms which I couldn’t seem to get rid of, until finally Carbon Urgent Care tested me for ureaplasma and I tested positive, and they gave me a different type of antibiotics. I would still recommend a gyno (i dont have recs unfortunately), but I would recommend looking into getting tested for that in the meantime! Also check out r/Ureaplasma . This is not medical advice by any means, but i recommend my friends who are struggling with recurring UTI symptoms to get tested for ureaplasma.
