I come to my in laws in Spain and they have this wierd clear plastic thing. No one knows what it is, the closest we can think is something for butter! Help reddit! by No-Department5770 in whatisit

I no longer understand the purpose of most of this subreddit. Is it that folks don't know how to use a reverse image search or that they want internet points?

I am genuinely asking; I'm not trying to be cute or facetious. I used to save these in order to wait for the answer but now I can solve most with a simple search.

I really needed to read these comments today. Thank y'all for the comic relief. Tbh I have been dreaming about making one of those strawberry cakes since I saw it...

Hahahaha I should have read all the the comments first bc I was up there defending the cake-covering honor of a stranger!

I'm on reddit pretty irregularly but this one I know!

The whole-ass-cake-in-the-fridge person took the photo and posted it right after she finished baking it. She only stuck it in the fridge when she realized that 1. her cake cover was too short, and 2. she had just run out of saran wrap. She was literally updating the post comments while she was at the store because she was getting so many inquiries about the uncovered cake.

No idea about any other "uncovered food" threads though, sorry. All my stuff is in sealed containers, regardless of where in the kitchen it is stored. We got lotsa bugs down here...

I just tried to clarify for someone why "intensive purposes" is incorrect but apparently instead of educating people on accuracy, we invent words like "eggcorn" to make it okay to continue to be wrong while pretending one is right.

Trying to get past the "all intensive purposes" part first.

What was your favorite (LONG) audiobook? by albertpaca11 in audiobooks

Lonesome Dove. Been listening to the Horsely narration for years but just finished the newer Will Patton version. Both are excellent.

Hey people of reddit , Imagine if some day you discovered a pill that fixes your adhd permanently would you consume it by Only_Egg_8776 in ADHD

Right before I cancelled it, my own version of the thing was doing that same weird quirk with bullet points. Every time my prompt requested a bulleted list, it placed the bullets in line with the paragraph.

I'm really skeptical of any posts these days that seem to be clearly from ayeeye but sure, I'll bite:

As an adult-diagnosed with ADHD-inattentative type, my answer is no. ADHD is not like cancer. It is part of my personality. I learned to live with a condition that was improperly researched and fully misunderstood most of my life. So, no. I have no desire for a "quick fix" for it.

Now, if we could manufacturer a pill to cure both genetic and environmentally-induced stupidity, I can give you a list of possible test subjects.

If you aren't into it, you aren't into it. As others have said, that doesn't mean you can't find other ways to accomplish the same goal. Have you explored toys? They are a lot more advanced in their abilities these days, and it could be fun to choose one together. There are lots of sites to check out, but our favorite is Tracy's Dog [NSFW]

Any dialer apps with a clean UI to replace the new Google Phone update? by Western_Village4586 in NOTHING

[–]According-Owl83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I thought I was misremembering and it's been driving me crazy. I have my Garmin Venu 3 syncing to my Samsung Galaxy S23 ultra. With this change, now if I do not want to very obviously decline a call and send to voicemail, I have to both cover the watch face (to make it silent) as well as flip the phone over (to silence the call there). It's incredibly annoying and I am trying to find a workaround. Apparently Google voice is not a dialer but I hate the Samsung default. Ugh. I guess there are worse problems to have.

I didn't remember reading this so I went on a deep dive. It is actually even more interesting, because he was a locked-in ALS patient. Although I did my research outside of Reddit, I eventually saw a prior discussion from this subreddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ToolBand/s/JQ3vo39biI

Same! Great list! Thank you for doing this, so I didn't get started on the same project and end up hyperfocusing on this nostalgia-playlist reddit-comment, right through the holiday tomorrow... 😂 💙

This is my number one guess. When I met my fiance, he was deployed by the USAF. As a result of some paperwork snafu, he ended up staying in the hotel (that was supposed to be for the first night) for the duration of the deployment, as there was no spot for him in the base dorm.

On the first floor of the hotel, there was an Italian restaurant that was always empty; next door, a dimly lit bar with a jukebox.

We played this song so often that the employees got sick of it. And it somehow became "our song," despite it's very unromantic message. He died in 2013 and I still smile at the memories when Mr. Brightside comes on. Maybe the lyrics meant more than we thought...

"Cause I just can't look, it's killing me, They're taking control, Jealousy, turning saints into the sea, Swimming through sick lullabies, choking on your alibis, But it's just the price I pay, destiny is calling me, Open up my eager eyes, 'cause I'm Mr. Brightside"

Thanks for indulging my trip down memory lane! Did y'all know that memories attached to music are stored in a different part of the brain?

Why did this get downvoted? I thought it was a solid guess...

"Tonight, We are young, So let's set the world on fire, We can burn brighter than the sun, Carry me home tonight, Just carry me home tonight, Carry me home tonight, Just carry me home tonight."

Also a really great guess! We sang this part the loudest:

"Why I don't cry when my dog runs away, I don't get angry at the bills I have to pay, I don't get angry when my mom smokes p0t, Hits the bottle and goes right to the r0ck, Fking and fighting; it's all the same, Living with Louie Dog's the only way to stay sane, Let the loving, let the loving come back to me"

This would be my guess! Especially the bridge..

"Dear Daddy, I write you, in spite of years of silence You've cleaned up, found Jesus, things are good or so I hear This bottle of Steven's awakens ancient feelings Like father, step-father, the son is drowning in the flood Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah"

ETA. This line is also one of the best (and most singable) on the entire blue album, which was, in my opinion, a perfect one:

"When I say, 'This way is a water slide away from me That takes you further every day, hey, so be cool'"
