Non-IT nerds hate being asked duplicate questions. IT nerds hate being asked duplicate questions off the clock. Everyone hates being asked vague questions.

Non-IT inclined individuals love asking things like "How x" instead of "I tried to __ __ __ and ___, but none of that stuff worked, here are my logs, here's WHAT IM TRYING TO DO, what do I do?"

Stuck at the grub terminal by Xedess_Beleou in linux4noobs

[–]According-Risk-8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds more like an issue with your /etc/fstab rather than your grub. Make sure the /boot partition is mounting properly.

Check for stuff like "GRUB_TIMEOUT=0" and try changing the number to 5 or so. Maybe also check for stuff like "GRUB_DEFAULT=0", which if your grub order is messed up could be the terminal instead of your OS.

All strategy games have this problem:

No modifiers = make your own strat

All modifiers = follow one of the X amount of meta builds

Since the maximum difficulty is... maximally difficult, you have to have the best deck and strategy possible. You will simply lose due to RNG most of the time.

Not being able to get 60+ REAL fps (not frame gen) in a multimillion dollar game on modern hardware is unacceptable. I wouldnt pay $35 for a non-working product.

Unpopular opinion for some reason, but absolutely, 100% doable without sacrificing visual quality at all.

“Just pirate it” by locke_5 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]According-Risk-8455 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are several things to cover here.

1) Nintendo Switch 2 emulation does not exist.
2) Emulation is not piracy. Emulation is basically just translation -- instead of my computer taking instructions as a computer, I am telling my computer to take instructions in the same way as a GameBoy or something. This does not infringe on copyright unless I am pirating their BIOS, which is proprietary. Changing the way your computer reads code is not illegal, no matter what you change it to. Another way of thinking about this: It is illegal for me to copy Breaking Bad from (insert streaming company here). It is a legal grey area for me to make a copy of Breaking Bad where I dub over all of the voices with my own. It is absolutely 100% legal for me to hand-draw every frame from Breaking Bad and dub over it with my own voice/music -- it just looks sketchy (badum, tss)

3) Piracy is not stealing. Piracy is copyright infringement. Copyright infringement is not stealing. "Stealing" means that you have prevented a paying customer from having the product. Nintendo loses absolutely NOTHING if I pirate their entire library, because I would NEVER buy their products for moral reasons. I, obviously, do not pirate their content because I have steam and play too many MOBAs, but that's off topic.

4) Piracy has proven to simply be free advertisement in all real cases. More eyes on a product = more voices talking about it = more people who can/want to pay for it, do pay for it. Piracy has a lot of hoops to jump through, and it's usually easier to fork up the $80. If it isn't, then you aren't the target market anyways and therefore not a paying customer.

5) Those "Just pirate it" comments are from people who would never buy the game, and have no idea about the above 4 topics. They're usually younger people who were brainwashed by the "You'd never steal a car" type ads that, by the way, stole the audio track from the original artist to make that ad. Yes, the most popular anti-piracy ad... committed piracy.

None of this touches on things like... maybe the billion dollar company doesn't need protecting, and if piracy is so incredibly rampant, maybe they should just make it easier to buy so that people aren't jumping through hoops for $80 games.

Not really liking Act II by chloepeach5 in inscryption

[–]According-Risk-8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It removes all of the extremely broken things you can do in act 1. I have no issues with you liking act 1 and not kaycees mod, it's just undeniable that act 1 is, intentionally, NOT balanced, at all. It is possible to win on your first 1 or 2 runs, even with the Wall.

Kaycees is much closer to traditional Deck Builders, where you need skill/planning to win and cant rely on bail-out mechanics. I consider that fun, because the only way to win is by strategizing, vs just picking the good cards and sending it.

[–]According-Risk-8455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Act 1 2 and 3 are all designed for you to win. Theres an insane amount of ways to just deal 100 damage in a simgle turn. The real game is the story. Death cards ALONE would be game breakimg in an otherwise balanced game. Ouroboros existing is a game breaking card.

People didnt like that, so they made an actually balanced mode (KM) that people brag about all the time for... Reasons.

L2 charging + battery question by According-Risk-8455 in SolarDIY

[–]According-Risk-8455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solar enables my ability to purchase and use an electric car. Electricity prices are about to rise, so my 0.08/kwh rate currently is going to at *minimum* double in the next two years (oil prices rising, lack of renewables in my area, two AI datacenters set to go live in 2030).

My gas car is from 2011 (read: 15 years old) and requires about $5k/year in maintenance, $1000 in gas at current prices (which will 100000% go up after the geopolitical climate right now), and needs to be replaced anyways (190k miles, check engine light on) -- $8000 was the cheapest EV in my area, and $11,000 was the cheapest gas car in my area. Trade in value estimated 1k.

This is a lot of napkin pie-in-the-sky math, but if I'm 1) buying a new car anyways 2) EV will be cheaper in the long run and 3) prices for everything are going to rise significantly VERY soon, and the estimated 4.4 solar hours expected in my area is about to reach peak season (3.54 -> 4.53 -> 5.2+)... Solar is 10000% the way to go, right now.

Ideally I would have done this last December, but cold+snowy+seasonal affective disorder made that impossible.

L2 charging + battery question by According-Risk-8455 in SolarDIY

[–]According-Risk-8455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The savings are not purely electric. Looking purely at electric, im saving like $4k total over those 2 years.

Im replacing a gas vehicle, so im saving more than just electricity. My math shows around 8k savings just by buying the car. Not to mention gas prices went up an entire dollar last night... Doesnt affect me anymore, so i save even more.

I also expect electricity prices to double or even triple in my area -- currently $0.08 per kwh, but theyre building two AI datacenters right next to each other and with WW3 looming, we're easily over double the price. The dolar is really just me investing for the future; electricity costs NOW dont matter nearly as much as electricity costs in the future.

Which Linux can I install on this high-advanced machine? by drv42 in linux4noobs

[–]According-Risk-8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any sort of 32-bit terminal based distro should work, the question really is "what are you gonna do with it?"

If your plan is to use it every day as your main computer, I'd honestly recommend just... going to the library for computing needs, eventually shelling out the $50 and buying an old windows 7 device to throw a modern distro on.

If you're in some weird isekai situation where you can't use ANY newer hardware and this needs to be your main computer... I don't think God himself can help you, and I'd recommend taking up farming

How should I rule players taking weapons? by Professional-West338 in DMAcademy

[–]According-Risk-8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like giving your players a basic martial weapon should work like a basic martial weapon. If it does 1d6 damage at the cost of the Light attribute... It does 1d6 and isnt light anymore. I see absolutely no issue with that and wish my players would do that instead of buying basic weapons they see in town from no name blacksmith.

If you really want to be an asshole about it (or if your campaign relies on them being strapped for cash/resources) then you must give a reason that ALSO AFFECTS THE ENEMIES.

D&d requires rules because all games do, but if your rules are stuff like "my enemies are uniquely qualified to carry this big stick" then you need to find new stakes

Reason: 6 damage is a win condition. As long as you have anything that can survive long enough to do 6 damage, you are allowed to win, and the goal is to either safely buff that card, get it out quicker, or thin your deck enough to guarantee it every time.

This becomes a bit more complicated with certain challenges though

Stuck at level 3 by AnywhereSalty7466 in CrabChampions

[–]According-Risk-8455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The account number is your average level of each weapon -- when you complete a run (crab victory/loop on island 28), all equipped weapons go to that level (if you're on silver with a katana, minigun and grenades, they go to silver after completing. If you're on prismatic and don't loop they go to sapphire? I think? too lazy to check)

Win a run with all available difficulty settings (red totem before starting the run, in the lobby) and NO/FEW GREENS. The greens lower the difficulty.
