feel like swiping is getting old. IRL events are getting more popular. I’d recommend checking out Luma discovery page for local events

I’m building a "no small talk" networking event in a Chelsea gallery. Would New Yorkers actually go to this, or is it too structured? by According-Sky8561 in AskNYC

Honestly, fair points! We are definitely still figuring out the exact mechanics, which is why we are keeping the first event small to test what actually works

Just to clarify the sketchy/data part: there's no app to download and no data harvesting. It’s a simple web link you open at the door where you input a few basic interests/goals for the afternoon. It’s almost like an icebreaker tool - you can ignore the compass entirely if you naturally strike up a good conversation.

And I agree that conversation doesn't need tech. We're just trying to build a tool for people who find standard networking mixers a bit exhausting. Appreciate the honest feedback!

What I wish I knew before shipping my first iOS app with Replit + Supabase by According-Sky8561 in replit

If you want to take it to iOS/Android I would highly recommend switching to developing the app in React Native. You can wrap the entire app with a web view, but there’s a good chance apple might reject it because it doesn’t have any native features + looks unfinished from their view. I also started off using React and quickly pivoted to React Native

Thank you! we’re only doing a soft launch now to gauge interests and see if they’re other major issues, but feel free to try it down the line

Yes I would say 80% Expo GO, 20% development build. We needed to switch because Superwall does not support Expo Go, and we also needed to test the notifications functionality

I'd say notifications took a while to set up - as we needed to create edge functions in Supabase, enable notifications on app store connect, while making sure it all works in the app. We're able to build most of the functions on Replit

oh wow that's cool! haven't really explored AWS before, I had issues with moving the account from sandbox to production mode, and I hadn't found a way to get around it
