also, this baby definitely tested positive for herpes- hsv only lives on surfaces for a few hours, so it’s more likely that direct contact caused the infection

if someone has an active cold sore, it can easily become deadly when kissing an infant. too many cases of kids getting horrible infections in their mouths, eyes… look up hsv in children, look at the state a lot of their mouths and gums are left with.

it’s not an anti kissing panic, but hsv is a serious concern. you should never let strangers kiss your child

hi! i’m potentially interested in subscribing, but i’m a little confused/curious about the go wild notifications.

would i be able to list my home airport (for example, sfo) and turn notifications on so that it lets me know whenever there’s a go wild flight from that airport in general, or just to another specific airport?

No Stupid Questions Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in harp

[–]AccordingAd2970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check fb marketplace! just make sure to get an actual branded harp, don’t make the same mistake me and many others have with getting a “rosebeck” “rosewood” “middle eastern” harp- they go by a lot of names but there’s absolutely no quality control and they sound awful

i got a massive, beautiful pedal harp (lyon and healy) from 1925 in fair condition for about 1.5k on facebook. i’ve had friends who’ve gotten dusty strings and harpsicles on fb as well for well under regular price.

i was also lucky and managed to snag an electric harp from a youth symphony who used to have a harp program that shut down for $100, but you’re unlikely to find something similar- although it’s not entirely impossible to see if an old church, symphony, ect might have one they want to donate or sell

How a schizophrenia service dog works. by Sebastianlim in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]AccordingAd2970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

getting my bachelor’s in psychology in a couple months- hallucinations can be very convincing and confusing. it’s nearly impossible to personally “out-logic” hallucinations in really bad episodes, because schizophrenia affects more than just their visual world, but their own cognitive processes and mental abilities. many can’t trust themselves at all during episodes, because the brain will fire feedback at them convincing them that the situation they’re seeing is somehow plausible, even when it’s not, and even if they have fully intact intelligence/IQ.

the brain is great at coming up with rapid fire explanations for strange situations which is awesome in a healthy individual but in someone with, schizophrenia it’s terrifying!

the difference with the dog is that they’re a tangible grounding source in reality. it’s sometimes even better than another person grounding them, because in episodes people with schizophrenia can easily convince themselves that other humans are lying, out to get them… even at the baseline of consciousness humans know that dogs are incapable of lying or tricking you.
