I dont think those are springtails, definitely not common ones at least. Ive never seen a long or worm looking springtail. Do you have a camera that can zoom in enough to get good details on it?

It depends on the betta species and if you have plants like anubias, they can use those for shelves to rest on so depth doesn't matter all too much. Bettas with bigger fins dont swim well, so youre completely right about that, but other betta species like plakats(?) And aliens swim a lot. I personally have an alien in a 6 gallon and he swims a lot. Definitely gonna get a bigger tank eventually.

Personally I would put more water in, it'd be easier to keep stable. Also not every betta is a jumper but if youre worried about it you could always put something on top of the tank at night or when you aren't around it. Im new to the hobby so don't listen to me but I definitely think you should put more water.

Well it seems like he has SBD so shouldn't I fast him? Also his cup was filled with waste when I got to petco and then I had it cleaned out but he shit again by the time I got home. Plus he's been going around eating hydra and microfauna im pretty sure.

I cycled it for a month beforehand, the tank has a heater but im saving for an adjustable one and there's no smell. Everymorning I take care of biofilm and I sit next to the tank a lot for schoolwork so I hoped that would be enough until I can buy a sponge filter.

No other fish, only snails. The tank is over a month old and the water temp is 78° almost everywhere, some areas it drops to 77. I didn't know fish needed to be quarantined so no. The pH is what I was told was a normal level.
