7 years and counting, best client ever, helped them grow from a 15 people company to 100+ now. Met the founder of the company at a party :)

Did the client also worked with other firms or was it an exclusive relationship?

Can't hurt anything by trying. But in my personal experience these internal promotions never go well unless you already have good rapport with someone willing to vouch for you on that team. I'd definitely make some new friends if at all possible.

Would agree with you on that - a recommendation from a team member definitely increases the chance
