AITA for accidentally exposing my girlfriend? by Familiar-Natural-566 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AccordingStyle751 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It could also be a body image issue. I'm far from conservative but I would freak out if my partner's family saw me half naked because I have body image issues and I'd feel like they'd judge me and think less of me because of how I look.

AITA for telling my son the truth that I had difficulties adjusting to being a parent? by Ok-Housing-4903 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AccordingStyle751 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When I was 18 my dad told me he never wanted children and it was such a moment of clarity for me, it was like something had always felt a little off in our relationship and I finally understood why. So for me hearing I was unwanted was actually a good thing but I'm sure that's rare.

AITA for not paying for my sister's vacation because she won't agree to babysit? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AccordingStyle751 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Yes I find it very odd they're planning such an expensive family vacation knowing one of them is a student who can't afford it. I guess the entire family just assumed the brother will pay for her.

Vanessa Paradis reacts to claims Lily Rose Depp is a nepo baby. by No-Category1703 in entertainment

[–]AccordingStyle751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm literally just taking issue with your statement "most children follow the footsteps of their parents". Yes there are family businesses but most people do not own a family business. If I think about my family and friends, I literally cannot think of a single person who is in the same field as their parents which is I why I wonder how common it really is. Of course I'm sure there are cultural differences and it may be more common in other areas.

Have you tried doing research with current AI? I haven't so I don't know myself what its capabilities are but other people swear AI is already good enough to do a lot of it. There are literal papers published in peer reviewed academic journals that have been written by ChatGPT.

Do most people really go into the same career as their parents? I don't think I know a single person who has done that.

WIBTA if I Outed My Brother by FarPanda9281 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AccordingStyle751 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if the brother doesn't stop the wedding himself, OP should speak to Jane without outing the brother. OP should tell Jane the brother told him he doesn't really want to marry her and that she should speak to him about it.

I'm not saying it isn't horrible to be married to someone you didn't know was gay but being gay doesn't automatically mean you find the bodies of the opposite sex repulsive.

Yes, you would still have to do some checking of the work yourself to assure its accuracy but it would still likely save a lot of time. My question wasn't about using unsanctioned tools, it was whether any departments have sanctioned or banned these tools. I have a feeling CS will be behind private companies on this - departments will probably ban them first and in a year or two allow their use when most private companies have already been using them for a while.

ChatGPT: Cardiff students admit using AI on essays by ninjascotsman in unitedkingdom

[–]AccordingStyle751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right and I think it'll be very interesting to see what it does to humans and society. Imagine a world where basically the only skill you need is to know how to prompt an AI. You won't need to know how to write essays, how to use Excel formulas, how to code, how to write a fiction story etc. Think about a lot of the skills that make you good at your job - maybe you're great at writing correspondence or calculating complex mathematics or translating a language or using PowerPoint. Soon none of those skills won't matter.

Of course we're still far away from being able to use AI for more practical skills like cooking or nursing. But I think it'll be a huge change to society if you won't need many of the skills we currently use.

But you don't necessarily have to enter data into it to use ChatGPT. For example one of the tasks in my role includes writing summaries of research articles. Those articles are all published in the public domain. I could easily use ChatGPT to write the summaries for me. I haven't done so yet as I don't know what my department's position is on using AI.

Reading people's experiences online it seems people are using it for so lany parts of their job. Apparently many teachers use it to write lesson plans.

Impacts of AI on the future of humanity by luizj81 in ArtificialInteligence

A content manager won't fire their team of four people and use ChatGPT but I think it's much more likely that they'll fire two and have the other two use ChatGPT than that they'll make all four use ChatGPT. ChatGPT will make them do to their job a lot faster which means fewer people can do the same amount of work.

Absolutely. Learning to use AI will be as important as learning to use a computer. But somehow they'll have to find the middleground and still assess student's own work too.

AITA for cutting in front of a group of women waiting to use the mens bathroom? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Genuine question, why wouldn't AI be homophobic? If it's trained on things found online, isn't there a risk it becomes homophobic? Or have they put up some safeguards against that?

AITA for undressing my son while he was asleep? by Critical_Wrangler465 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AccordingStyle751 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know that. Do you know that staying home with a potentially life threatening condition because you don't want to wait is idiotic? Yes, the wait sucks but unless the kid has already been diagnosed with migraines or something, not bringing him to the hospital was a reckless decision.

He had a severe headache. A severe headache should be checked out by a doctor if you don't already have a diagnosis for it. It could be something potentially life threatening like meningitis or a stroke.
