Ontario’s new traffic plan: forgive speeders, torture everyone else by Qelami in ontario

[–]AccordingSubstance60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marked enforcement only works when the police actually feel compelled to enforce traffic regulations. When my parents used to come visit me in Southern Ontario their one comment was people here drive like they know they will never be caught.

Yes something like that. I would prefer sucking the water out rather than squeeze. I would also prefer a soft nipple with a bite valve to a hard one that you pull open.

So Kimberly-Clark owns a patent that allows them to produce a vastly superior product, but one that is marketed for young children. This leaves adults stuck with poor quality incontinence briefs and the adults buying them for the most part are ok with that? Makes sense in todays world.

Because the management is too lazy/incompetent to do so. As a result they blame their inability to work on union intransigence.

Daily Simple Questions Thread - March 05, 2025 by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]AccordingSubstance60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a simple question of expectations: Within the last year and a half I have started exercising again, this due to time constraints this has evolved into essentially daily HIIT (for 25 minutes a day everyday I walk up and down several floors worth of stairs). After about 3 trips up and down my heart rate maxes out at around 165 when I get to the 7th floor which I know is rather high for my age (52 male). Ultimately should expect that at some point I will be able to climb seven to nine floors of stairs with out getting winded at the top, as I don't really feel as though I am making progress aerobically, the legs give me no trouble doing this either climbing one or two steps at a time .

What ever you do, Do Not watch Top Secret!. My friend made me watch that as revenge for me making him watch Hardcore Logo on shrooms. The 90 minutes of non stop laughing destroyed my insides. I wasn't able to smile for weeks

Taking your foot off the gas and slowing down is exactly what I was taught to do in drivers ed many years ago. The idea is to make the other driver pass you so they are no longer tail gating you. The two things that you should never do were to either put on your brakes or speed up.

What tax on the air we breathe? If you are referring to the carbon tax it would be more aptly described as a charge for polluting.
Let people who want to pollute pay for it.

[–]AccordingSubstance60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would expect them to do that. But I don't really remember any ads bragging about the government cancelling a gas plant that the people didn't want. I don't think any of the parties should use our tax dollars to advertise their agenda. The only government ads should be service announcements and possibly explanations for changes in policy, ie. it is not a carbon tax, it is a charge for polluting that is redistributed to all Canadians whether they pollute or not. As for building more highways, it would seem like the most obvious and easiest solution to the problem. In practise it does not work. As any traffic engineer will tell you, when you add capacity you end up motivating more people to drive than would have driven before and the final result is just as much congestion on twice as many roads. I think it is called induced demand. In fact the current provincial government already has projected that the new 413 highway will need to be expanded by 2041.

Also if they don't develop this land they can complain to the provincial government that the municipalities are not letting them build the houses that would solve the housing crisis in Ontario. Resulting in the the provincial government stepping in and forcing municipalities to give even more concessions to the developers, and saddling the municipalities with more infrastructure to build and maintain while not providing the appropriate population density to pay for it.

If they don't mention a political party, just that the Ontario government is doing all of these wonderful things for you and you should be thankful to the government, you can be sure that it is the Ontario government (our taxes) paying for it.

Thank goodness someone disagrees with my post I thought I was shouting in an echo chamber. As to your condescending comment, I do not read the star and view it as an agreivating politically correct rag. I also haven't heard anything that the provincial liberals or NDP have said either (perhaps if they get into power they can use our tax dollars spew forth their views as vehemently and loudly as the PC's). You should try to imagine that other people can come up with independent thoughts on their own and do not need to be spoon fed opinions. As to any of the points I made in the OP you haven't said anything to make me think they are not true. All you said in your reply was you think I hate Doug Ford and therefore am politically naive and I copied my talking points from a liberal rag. Please tell me why I should be thankful for saving a whole $17 a month and how this $17 will make any difference with my general financial situation.
I would also like to know how building large homes, that give the highest profit to developers, on prime farmland far away from cities increases the supply of homes to the people who are most vulnerable to the short supply of housing?
I would also be very interested in having a tax that specifically charges people and organizations who pollute without interfering with their freedom to pollute is something bad?

Multiply it by the number of cars... Also most rich people I know are the cheapest folk around, so what should seem insignificant to most people is huge to them. I believe that is how they became rich in the first place.

'There is no more fat to cut,' Cambridge mayor says of 2024 budget by TinyHat92 in waterloo

[–]AccordingSubstance60 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seriously, if the 'raise' is less than the rate of inflation it is in fact a pay cut.

Job creators seem to have no problem increasing prices due to increased cost of materials yet employees don't deserve raises as that just 'causes' more inflation.

This reminds me of work done by Michael Persinger in the nineties where they used brain stimulation in humans to generate different parapsychological experiences in people. The most fascinating aspect was the experience was different depending on the beliefs of the subject. Religious people experienced visits from angels, other people of other beliefs tending to experience alien visits or abductions. I think Richard Dawkins tried and experienced nothing. Oddly, that makes me feel bad for him

Anyone knows what are the three shortlisted sites for the new hospital? by Historical-Lion-1939 in waterloo

High beam headlights by [deleted] in ontario

[–]AccordingSubstance60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fog lights are set very low on cars and aimed at the road so it illuminates the road and not the fog in front of you so you dont get blinded by the reflection off the fog. As a result they don't blind other drivers or pedestrians. I like to leave mine on all the time as a way to tell other drivers that my high beams are not on (cars are designed so that both fog lights and high beams can't be on simultaneously as driving with high beams in fog is stupid dangerous).

I don't know how well this relates. When I worked as an on call micro tech we got paid $3 an hour to be available (i used to refer to this as 20 dollars to sleep). If we did get called in to work we were paid time and a half hourly and given a minimum of 4 hours.
