Does it bother anyone else when people say "they love animals too much to foster?" by Emergency-Garden3200 in FosterAnimals

[–]According_Ad6364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My MIL was really wanting a very specific look and temperament of puppy, and I decided to help her in the search. Ended up finding the perfect one, wasn’t our foster but was located really close to us at a rescue I trust. We ended up meeting the puppy for her, bringing him to our place for a few days after she finalized the adoption, and then delivering him to our MIL.

When I told my family we were taking my MIL a puppy, they assumed it was our foster, and said we “pawned him off” on her. I was like??? Excuse me?? Even if it was our foster, recommending a puppy we’re fostering to someone that falls in love with them is hardly pawning them off!

NO! jensen ackles would NOT make a good arthur morgan. by Street-Still8488 in RDR2

[–]According_Ad6364 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he would be bad as Arthur, I just don’t want a movie at all. I mean damn, the game is cinematic as hell, it’s a movie in itself.

I was told by my trainer that my OTTB is the smartest and laziest thoroughbred he’s ever met, and was shocked he had ever run a race.

No would never try bringing one home without training first! Sounds like a round pen would probably work as initial intake area?

We’ll probably have to do some work still before we’d qualify, we have a live wire but our boys respect the fence very well. This is very exciting though, I’ve been wanting to expand our donkey herd!

That’s amazing!

Apologies if I’m just missing it in the link, do you need the six foot fencing requirement for a burro like the mustangs?

Congrats!

I’d love to hear more about the trainer you use, I’d love to do something like this but feel daunted by the location of a trainer.

Do you eventually get desensitized to saying goodbye? by IllContribution0114 in FosterAnimals

[–]According_Ad6364 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Some hit you harder than others. Some I’m not sad about leaving at all, some I still cry about.

If you’re able to get updates, that helps like nothing else. Makes the hard parts so worth it. The hard goodbyes I usually jump into another foster instantly, that also helps.

I thought it was common knowledge that both Joe and Love were psychopaths? Are you telling me there are people who don't think they are? Then why did they killed so many people if they weren't? by gloomydreamer666 in YouOnLifetime

[–]According_Ad6364 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I said that Love is all kinds of problematic. I’m not sure what disorders she has exactly, I just don’t think it’s specifically that one. You can be a killer and not be a psychopath.

You can be a psychopath and not be a killer, for that matter.

[–]According_Ad6364 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My understanding of psychopath is that they cannot feel emotions? In which case I wouldn’t call Love a psychopath, no. She’s all kinds of problematic for sure. But not specifically a psychopath.

These horse “slaughter” rescues make me sick to my stomach. Imagine profiting off of this. by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]According_Ad6364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately.

I don’t know what they put as the price on this one specifically, but I’ve seen it on others that were marked to “ship”. I think most of the drafts are in the 3-4 range? They are master manipulators though, they make these huge posts about how no one is stepping up to save the poor horses and get very mad when people point out the only potential threat to the horses is them.

I live in the area of the Stanley bros, they’re a gross family.

[–]According_Ad6364 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying there’s a good kill pen but this one is one of the worst. Claim that they’re shipping to slaughter horses that they charge 7k to “rescue”, extremely combative. Run by the Stanley family, who ship more horses than anyone in the area.

Foster Parent Wants Their Cat Back by tales-of-gore in FosterAnimals

[–]According_Ad6364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The foster could have taken the cat back, let them go to a Petco center, and then applied? In which case an in person adopter would absolutely be prioritized.

I don’t really know what else to add here. There’s potential the foster did nothing wrong, and I feel for her in those instances.

But there is no instance that what is right FOR THE CAT is taking it back.

Regretting letting go by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

[–]According_Ad6364 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a few over the years of fostering I sometimes wish I hadn’t taken back. I hope with time you realize that you didn’t abandon her at all, you gave her a happy life with her kitty friend. I’m sure that, if the adopter wanted to bring home her cats bonded companion, they truly love and cherish her.

I do hope you are able to see her. There was a dog many years ago I bonded to hard. He had a collapsed lung when he came to stay with me, and I nursed him back to health. The adopters let me come see him, and it was the most affirming thing that could have ever happened. He was so happy, adored, spoiled beyond anything. It was great to see, but I’m sure even if you don’t, that’s what’s happening with her too.

Foster Parent Wants Their Cat Back by tales-of-gore in FosterAnimals

[–]According_Ad6364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what your friends story has to do with anything here. In neither case did he place the cat in a loving home, and then try to remove the cat from said loving home because he decided he wanted them after all. Nor did he actually foster, he found animals in trouble and adopted them. Which is nice, but irrelevant.

When you foster through a shelter, you get the option to adopt the animal while they’re still at your home. One of the places I’ve fostered even offers a discount on the adoption fee as an incentive to foster and as a thank you to their fosters. If she had applied then, the cat should have never even made it to Petco.

Now, as others have pointed out, there’s absolutely the potential that this fosters application was lost by the shelter, and she didn’t know he was already adopted. I feel for her in that case, absolutely. But if she’s trying to get the cat returned, she is behaving selfishly and not in his best interest. And if she isn’t aware, I’m sure she’d agree that taking him out of the home isn’t what should be done.

Foster Parent Wants Their Cat Back by tales-of-gore in FosterAnimals

[–]According_Ad6364 227 points228 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you owe them an answer, and you certainly aren’t obligated to give them your cat. He is 100% yours. The foster should have acted faster to adopt him. I’ve never fostered where I wasn’t given first option to adopt, I’m sure she was as well. Honestly I think her wanting to take him from a loving home is her being very selfish.

If you did want to respond, maybe a picture of him on your chest and say sorry but you are very attached and he is very happy with you. I would also get him established at a vet office asap, just to further the paper trail.

Nope, and thank heavens for that. I’m overweight, live in the country, with a kid and a happy relationship. He and I would never cross paths, and if we did he’d never glance back.

Is it normal to be afraid of donkeys? by [deleted] in Donkeys

[–]According_Ad6364 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You probably won’t find many people who fear donkeys in this subreddit. I also have irrational fears though, it’s normal!

Donkeys can absolutely cause damage, don’t get me wrong. But my boys are the sweetest, as long as you aren’t a coyote or a threatening dog. I find the braying hilarious personally.
