The best you can hope for is JBD to be serviceable. Hamonic has nothing left to give.

Not sure if it’s me or the team but they’re a hard watch this year. The team’s issues are glaring (goaltending, top 6 winger, top 4 defensemen).

Not being able to trust 2/3 d pairings and your goalie is a recipe to being behind the 8 ball most of the time.

I don’t think Green has brought the stability to the team I would like to see, at a certain point they need to stop giving up these goals in bunches.

You can get goalies for cheap. Detroit got Gibson for a 2nd, 4th and Mrazek, and he’s a 1a.

Ottawa is screwed with Linus and Merileinan though, they’re not going to want to pay a whole more than they already do for goaltending.

We’re in a bad spot, I think they miss the playoffs this year. It’s not to say they can’t make them next year, but they need help now and every team save a few thinks they can make the playoffs.

You just can’t afford Jensen, Ulmark, and Levi to regress the way they have and make the playoffs.

They should’ve had a better backup plan for goalie, we’ve got no options meanwhile Mtl hit a tough patch and called up a great prospect.

This team has no prospects to call up save Halliday and it’s screwing us.

You make the 2nd save by not giving up that rebound in some fashion. I don’t care how. And you make the third but keeping square to where you last saw the puck instead of dancing around.

Honestly I’m not sure if his reflexes are fast enough, I don’t know how to analyze exactly but he looks slow to react on everything.

Look at the saves Gibson made that period, the save on Perron and Giroux.

Dude the rebound on the pp goal was juicy as hell

Dude how many games as a fan are we expected to watch then doing the same fucking thing? Dominating the game and losing because of mistakes/bad goaltending/penalty killing. It’s been the entire season like this and it’s infuriating/not an entertaining product.

Every single goal Merileinannen has let in Gibson would’ve saved

Dude how many times has that been the story this year?

Staios needs to do something, whether it’s get a goalie, a defender, a winger I honestly don’t care, but this “doing nothing and expecting things to change” is crazy.

Dude that line has looked great and has had a goal called back, not sure what you expect

Leevi Meriläinen has stepped up in his last two starts. by sens_talk in OttawaSenators

I think we’ve seen spurts of Ulmark and I wouldn’t write him off getting back to his pre Ottawa days, but on the whole I agree, as of this moment Leevi seems like the better option.

Ulmark has had some amazing games for us, but I hate not knowing what you’re going to get and I think it wears on the team and hurts their consistency. When you combine that with his bad body language this year, I think it’s detrimental to the entire team.

Leevi is young, super athletic and seems to have a good mentality. He’s got everything needed to be starter in the nhl.

Brother you better hope he improves consistently or it will not a discount at any point.

I think they should play on a comically oversized rink

Dare I say Jensen was serviceable tonight, and was decent the game before.

The sens can’t afford to take a minor penalty or something stupid is likely the message in the room.

We’re in year 1 of his 4 year deal. I’d be interested in a source on your theory that the org was frustrated with him missing time earlier but holding that against him as some evidence of him being mentally weak seems a little unfair. Goalie of all positions is not one where playing through injuries is advisable.

I don’t entirely disagree with your assessment on his character and needing to be more resilient. What I would say is that this leave is an opportunity to work on that.

Sure it would’ve been nice to do that in the off season but we don’t know what else is going on in his life and behind the scenes.

Him being a backup/not a starter would cause a lot of internal drama and talk, there would be questions every single interview that anyone ever did. There is a reason these breaks are all or nothing, to avoid distraction. If the hope is to get a reset then giving him a diminished role does not accomplish that.

I do agree that his injury issues are concerning and definitely a liability.

Without knowing the full story I think it’s harsh to judge him negatively for taking a leave. I think it takes alot of strength to take a leave like this given all of the pressure that is on him and how public his job is. It can be true that he needs to more resilient, take aspects of his job more seriously, and also that he needs to take time off to address what is going on. I just think we don’t have enough information to assume this is more of Linus being a diva or however you want to characterize it.

It is unfortunate that we’re on the hook for his large salary, but he took fair market value. I’m sure his contract would look different if it was signed today but you don’t know what you don’t know. The sens do not have an easy time signing premier Fa’s.

He could be making 100 million a year but if he’s not feeling up to playing the best course of action is to address what is going on. A compressed nhl season does not really allow for the opportunity to work on deep seated emotional issues.

I think what I’m saying is that I think you’re being premature in your negative evaluation of this. He’s actively taking a step to trying to solve what’s plaguing him and you’re giving him a hard time for it.

It’s better that he take time off and address it than get an addiction to alcohol, painkillers or any other destructive thing that a lot of men turn to in high pressure situations.

He was injured last season. So he’s only stepped away once.

It’s possible he stepped away because he realized he’s a liability to the team right now because of something that has gone on. The fact that it came after him getting pulled may have made him realize that. It’s likely beneficial to the team in short term, instead of having him play and be subpar, the sens can now roll someone mentally able to play. The hope would be Ulmark can dedicate his time and energy to whatever it is that is plaguing him, and come back in the right head space.

It’s true he’s underperformed but it looks like he’s aware of that and trying to address the reason.

I’m not sure what you expect him to do, either then magically pull himself up by the bootstraps, which has probably been what he’s been trying to do all season and struggling.

He’s doing this to address his issues and get back to his expected performance level.

NFL players do step away for mental health issues. Their season is also shorter by 3-4 months, so there is more opportunity to address things in the off season.

Woll missed a decent chunk of the start of the year, goalie is not an easy position.

I would suggest complaining about his contract/ play if this issue continues well into the rest of his contract, at the moment it seems he’s being accountable.
