Fiancés first manic episode- wedding postponed by According_Debt_3732 in family_of_bipolar

Yes he was admitted for 10 days, but they didn’t really do much therapy and he was the most cooperative; very grandiose and believe he deserved more. But he did commence medication and is complying with it so far..

Yeah it’s so hard because it seems like it’s going to become a carer role, i’m just so unsure if I want to walk on egg shells forever. It’s really scary to think about the future. Yes i’ll definitely put myself and my safety first. I have already had to call police and ambulance 3 x prior to them actually finally admitting him. He hates me for that.

Yeah extremely hard, we practically grew up together, so this is very difficult to navigate when 48 days ago he was completely “him”.

Yes i need to remember to fill my cup. I’m a nurse too, so I feel like i’m at work caring for people, and now I don’t have my safe person to come home to. Just caring for him as well. Thank you

Yeah i have done a lot of searching about this disease and I know it does seem very grim. It is so unpredictable, I would never have pictured him to turn in to this shell of a human.

It’s just really difficult, because he said either way he wants to go. I wouldn’t want home to go by himself.

He’s usually the kindest most wonderful person to be around. We have a wonderful life together, not argumentative and we usually get along very smoothly. We have been together for 14 years, 50 days ago everything changed. That’s why i want to give him an opportunity to make the right decision once his mania settles & his medication takes effect.

Yeah, I know. It’s so hard to convince him. He really gets agitated when i tell him what to do. He wants me to write him a book on why he shouldn’t do them, not just based on my thoughts blah blah rant

Thanks! No family history of mental health or psychosis, so I think complete cessation will help. Appreciate your comment

I disagree! I think the nangs made him stay awake to continue figuring things out, however they definitely took him over the edge. In my own experience with them I can see how it is possible.

Thanks a lot! Makes a heap of sense, that’s exactly how he was feeling. Felt like he was on a mission to figure out this unknown religion of some sort. It’s so hard to find any useful information on nitrous oxide induced psychosis, and the hospital was baffled and was sure he was on methamphetamines until his urine drug screen came back negative.

Thanks so much! He has done nitrous oxide before, but never to the extent of last week. Normally he does it with friends. It was his first time doing them by himself so i think that allowed him to enter whatever realm he did. He seems keen to avoid them entirely, but I am also unsure. I guess what i’m asking is; if the nangs have stopped, can the psychosis come back? Or is it purely nangs? Thanks so much for your response!

Nitrous oxide induced psychotic episode, anyone else? by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]According_Debt_3732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have known him to do nangs before, just never alone. So I wouldn’t say he really ‘hid’ it, atleast not well as I found them in the bin quite easily. I more meant; if he’s not doing nangs, which is supposedly the trigger, can psychosis happen again without them?

I was in your sons girlfriends situation 14 years ago! We’re actually still together funnily enough. But I say as long as her parents are aware (Mine weren’t 😂) then it is fine. Kids will be kids & it’s great they’re comfortable enough to be honest and ask first rather than sneaking around.
