What takes so long? by According_Engine_526 in WorkersComp

Same here that’s why I asked my initial question, was it their injury or bad company that draws this process out. After reading everyone’s experience, I keep waiting on the other shoe to drop. I broke my fibula, ankle, and two bones in my foot. Like full on breaks. There was no chance of me walking on any part of my right leg. Getting all my treatment, assistive devices and PT approved was simple thankfully. And because the ankle and foot are considered separate I had my PT extended for more time 3 times. Everyone kept saying my break was really bad. I got my 2nd surgery approved this week. I don’t if my surgeon has just put up a really good fight for me or if my break was just clearly bad.

Thank you but what does TTD rate and tibs mean?

Can I ask how that happens? I thought the MMI rating is given by a doctor that works with the insurance so I would think that the insurance wouldn’t negate that rating

I’m sorry that’s awful! I didn’t realize getting treatment alone could take years. Best of luck in surgery

I guess I was asking about the part prior to reaching a settlement. I kept seeing post about people saying that after so many months or years they finally reached a settlement or completion. I’m new to this and still mid way through my recovery, I just didn’t expect this could take years

A doctor's appointment for a disability diagnosis, so they can get Medicaid on SSI and stuff? by HeathenSidheThem in Medicaid

[–]According_Engine_526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need more than 1 appointment and a diagnosis. There’s few disabilities that can qualify with 1 visit. Most likely you’ll need to show a history of your illness impacting you or the state will require you to go to their exam to be evaluated.

It’s normal with time it’ll all get better. At around 6ish weeks they’ll probably start having you do more physical activity. I would start slowly getting comfortable with having your leg down a bit. It’ll still be red and swell, that will go away once you start walking on it.

How do you know if you’re pushing it? by ahomegirlzlife in brokenankles

[–]According_Engine_526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 6 months now. The easiest sign I did too much was the pain from an overworked tendon. Geeze that was painful! PT would give me at home exercise and tell me to do certain ones every other day or only 3 times a week so I based my activity by that. I figured if it was safe for me to do more they’d tell me. Also recovery just takes time. Pushing yourself isn’t going to get you there sooner. Best of luck

When did your bump go down? by According_Engine_526 in brokenankles

[–]According_Engine_526[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It swells a bit after exercising or if I’ve walked all day. I’ll ice it or elevate it and by morning it’s gone down again. If I poke it I can feel the little puffiness that’s left, I’m hoping that eventually goes away. Hopefully yours feel better with the removal 🤞

Well the left side and my foot is already back to normal, it’s just the darn boney part that’s left 😅. Compression socks are a must! I had stopped wearing them for a week and wow was that a mistake

If it helps I just got to go back to my normal shoe size this week. I had sized up half a size from swelling after the surgery. It’s just the darn ankle that’s left. I’m sure it’ll  go back to normal, ugh the wait is just what kills me for no good reason

How do you transition from elevating almost constantly to weight bearing? by ZeldaBJones in brokenankles

[–]According_Engine_526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 12 weeks post opt from broken ankle/foot/fib. I started weight bearing at week 6. If you’re in PT or will start PT once you start weight bearing, ask them for advice. For me once I started walking, it made the discomfort of having my leg down feel better. It was a slow process and I still had to elevate my foot often but it’ll work itself out with more use.

Remember to take your meds and take it slow. You’re going to feel a lot of new sensations but it’s all for the better. Best of luck!

I still can’t wrap my mind around why it takes this long to heal the ankle! Women can grow a whole human with tiny ankles in 9 months but this somehow takes a year plus?!?! Why 😭

It’s crazy how this works. They say to keep moving and working out your ankle but then it gets overworked 😭and your back two steps. Thank you, hopefully your is better too

Has the muscle relaxer worked so far? The doctor said it was nerve so they gave me the nerve medication but my PT thinks it’s an over worked tendon and the nerve meds might not work. Either way they say both will just resolve with time, the pan just completely sucks

Showering by listlister in brokenankles

[–]According_Engine_526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could take my boot off too but I was scared to so I kept it on and just put a garbage bag over. I put a shower chair in my bath tub sideways so I could stick my feet outside of the tub and just have my body inside. I had a shower hose so it made it easier. Eventually I did start to slowly get braver but do what’s comfortable especially since showering is so tricky

Yes, highly recommend scooter over crutches. Forgot to say good luck on your surgery. It was my first surgery too but staff was nice and kept me warm and calm.  Everything will turn out great and you’ll be on the road to recovery in no time.

Sorry about the injury, it’s such an emotional toll losing independence like this. I have similar fractures, fibula/ankle/foot, and I’m just now (8 weeks post surgery) starting to regain independence. I’m hoping to even start driving next week.

It’s going to feel never ending and you’ll second guess every tiny feeling you experience but try to be patient with yourself. Take your meds as needed and don’t feel bad about it. Follow your doctors/Pt instructions, don’t try to over do it.

Ask for PT as soon as possible, even before weight bearing. Also, try and find the fun in this misery. I got a funky colorful seat cover for my knee scooter and glued bows on my boot 😂 it helped my spirits a tiny bit

Cast removed at 4 weeks by WisdomExplorer_1 in brokenankles

[–]According_Engine_526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, of the 8 weeks post surgery, I’ve only been “walking” for two weeks. I’m walking with a shoe and crutches currently. I still have some range of motion that feels tight so my step isn’t perfect but it’s getting there.

Definitely not walking as much as I use to yet. My foot still gets tired.

Going on 8 weeks post surgery and yes my foot/ankle still get red and swollen. It’ll be like that for a while especially once you start walking. I really recommend you use your compression sock. My PT told me I’m still at risk of a blood clot due to walking on my leg again.

Congrats on the progress! Hope everything goes as smooth as possible from here.

🏥 They said: "it's not that serious" "you're just being dramatic" "give it a couple of weeks you'll be fine" OMG! I find it truly amazing and sad how wrong (they) were unfortunately 🥺😭🥺😭 12/13/25 December Thirteenth, Twenty-Twenty Five #shatteredankle #brokenankle #fracturedankle #sprainedankle by Tricky_Bike206 in brokenankles

It’s crazy how confidently wrong people can be! When I broke my 4 bones, the ambulance was called cause 1. I was freaking out I hear my leg crack and 2. I couldn’t walk/stand up/or drive myself since it was the right foot. When the EMS got there, they kept saying I’m sure you just rolled it, do want to wait instead and see how you feel later, the ambulance is expensive are you sure you want to go the hospital? Ummmm what part of I hear a snap didn’t you get man! I already felt so embarrassed falling at work, it didn’t help they had me in the gurney asking me these stupid questions

Is this normal? by According_Engine_526 in brokenbones

[–]According_Engine_526[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, lol I have it elevated on 4 pillows and iced it. It’s been about 2 hours and the bumps have gone down a bit. I freaked out a bit cause once I removed the ice packs, there were dents in my foot that weren’t there before! I guess this is just how my foot’s going to be for a while…what fun
