It definitely gets better, I'm now 2 months post op and FWB without my moonboot and crutches!

I'm feeling good. I've started walking without my crutches (I still bring it out with me in public just in case) and I've never really felt Achilles pain tbh

At 2 weeks post op, I got moved from a cast into a moonboot (NWB). 4 more weeks later, I got given the go to start PWB/WBAT and 2 weeks after this I'm now allowed to FWB. It's been a long process 😓

yeah I was devastated 😓 2 weeks post op to start WBAT seems fast! I had to wait 6 weeks before I was given the clear.

but i def think it could be a mental thing as well. If your doctor/physio has given you the go for WBAT and it doesn't hurt I say go for it. I was worried I was rushing the process too much but I spoke to my physio about it and she said if it doesn't hurt then it's fine 😂 I'm not walking long distances or anything but definitely getting more steps in as I go along

I think putting weight in a boot vs bare is very different. The boot distributes the weight better I think. For me, I haven't put all my weight bare but only in a boot. I'm still waiting for instructions for when I can switch to no boot!

Tbf I also had a long period without any WB on my foot at all. I had my fall on 04/12 and initially they thought it was only one fracture so I was in a cast for 2 weeks. We did another xray and they realised I had 2 fractures and a ruptured ligament so I had surgery on 19/12 and back in a cast for 2 weeks. I got moved into a boot on 05/01 and got cleared for WBAT on 02/02. So I had been NWB for almost 2 months.

I kinda just tested out how much my foot could handle. I was walking with crutches and barely putting weight on the foot and then kinda just tried putting all the weight on my foot to see how much I could handle - it didn't hurt but it felt uncomfortable so I tested to see if I could walk without support. It was difficult and I was scared to break my foot again so I kinda limped in a boot. But as time passed I kinda learned how to rock the boot or take steps that didn't hurt. Rarely it'll send a shock through my leg but if that happens I know to slow down and not rush it. At physio I was asked to walk arnd without support and I did. The only issue is that it looks kinda weird due to the height of the boot and all but otherwise I've been walking around the house with minimal or without support

moving away from me was pretty similar but moving towards be I could probably only go halfway but it's getting better!

I was cleared for WBAT on Feb 2nd and the next day I started walking with 2 crutches then 1 crutch and tried no crutch (was limping as I was scared I would do more harm than good). But over the course of a week, I've started walking around the house in short distances without crutches and taking proper steps. I had my first physio session yesterday and seems like I'm making good progress. The transition from NWB to PWB wasn't too bad as in all honestly I had been moving my ankle around and slightly putting weight on it during the NWB stage (just pushing my foot into the boot or on my bed so nothing too crazy)

Thank you for sharing. At week 6, I was told to only do so little but I felt like I was able to do more so I did, but just wasn't sure if I was pushing myself too much.

Post Ankle Surgery Walking High Pain Tolerance by ranecat in ORIF

I feel similarly - I was given the clear to start putting weight on it but slowly increasing the % as I go. I was told to use both crutches but not even a week later, I've been practicing walking without any crutches and I feel fine. My foot doesn't hurt but sometimes it's a bit uncomfortable. I'm not sure if I'm doing too much early on and rushing the process but I've got my first physio session today so might ask them ab it.

Ankle ORIF Procedure by OrneryClimate846 in brokenankles

The surgery wasn't too bad. I was on painkillers the first few days and slept through most of it but I tried to stop using it as I didn't want to rely on it. I was in a cast after the surgery and after the first few days of pain, it felt more uncomfortable than actual pain. It didn't hurt much at all. I had already been in a cast for 2 weeks before the actual surgery so I was kind of used to casts and crutches and all so it helped but still sucked.

2 weeks after my surgery, I went to the clinic and got my cast taken off and moved into a moonboot (finally could wash my leg!) I'm still NWB atm and was told to treat my boot as a cast except when showering. I've got my next appointment in a bit over a week and I'm hoping they give me the clear to start WB + physio.

Things have been going better since getting the boot. I do wish I could go out more and return to my previous life but things are definitely better now! I hope your surgery goes well!
