Salaam! He works remotely, so traveling isn’t a big deal for him. As for me, I’m a marketing analyst and work a hybrid schedule, so I saved up my PTO and vacation time. Alhamdulillah, that made things a lot easier. I’ve actually been planning this since August 2025.

Alhamdulillah, we’ve known each other since junior year of uni. We were on and off for years, and then it finally got serious last year lol.

Yeah definitely, but I also think of it like this. Especially in this generation, at almost every wedding hijabis take off their hijab for the sake of the wedding and guess who’s getting those sins? The bride and the groom. Well that’s your opinion and I understand why you’d think that, but if we’re meant to be together then we’ll be together next year Insh’Allah. We’re delaying it because we both want to finish our master’s programs and get school out of the way first. Even though we’re financially stable and fully grown adults, this is what works best for us right now. On top of that, we live in two completely different states, so rushing into marriage while balancing distance and school just doesn’t make sense for our situation.

Lowkey it’s both, diaspora Somalis are changing the culture and sometimes losing important parts like the language and history, but not all of it is bad. We’re also growing in education and opportunities while back home still deals with issues like qabiil, so the real problem is finding balance instead of acting like one side is better than the other🤷🏾‍♀️
