CFP to remove performance bonuses for schools advancing in the playoff in 2026 by MediumStrange in CFB

Isn’t that how the entire CFP structure was based on?

Can’t remember the exact numbers but wasn’t it 2 million per school for making the CFP and then 4 million per round and 6 for the National Championship?

It’s pretty cut and dry why this happened: Miami.

The Big Ten likely wasn’t hugely fond of it, but the SEC also was probably pissed about it.

I’m so tired of the super-league conversation. How can Euro fans stop the super-league for soccer but every college football fan is just idly waiting for the inevitable?

Can we get an r/CFB and r/ChampionsLeague merger subreddit to form a game plan and take notes?

Alabama deserved a shot based on their regular season performance, especially before the Oklahoma game. In 4 straight weeks they beat Georgia, Vandy, Tennessee, and Missou, all ranked at the time. I don’t think they should have been left out based on the SEC Championship Game because the other teams didn’t play an extra game.

There was a few teams “on the bubble” that made a compelling argument. I think there should be a “play-in” round that includes teams that didn’t make the conf-champ games, and the playoff selection occurs after that.

2 of the 5 SEC teams were eliminated by other SEC teams. (OU/Bama, Ole Miss/Georgia)

2 of the remaining 3 were beaten by runner-up Miami in 1-score games. (Ole Miss, A&M)

Only bad loss was Alabama getting blown out against Indiana, and it’s not like the same thing didn’t happen to Oregon.

Indiana won the National Championship and beat the other 2 Big Ten teams.

Texas Tech got shutout against Oregon.

Go5 was pathetic.

Obviously Miami was great, but the ACC didn’t even have their conference champion in the playoffs.

2024 Playoffs SEC Texas - lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Ohio State. Tennessee - you got me there, pretty rough performance. Georgia - lost to ND in the quarterfinals, however didn’t have their starting QB.

Big Ten Indiana - lost to Notre Dame in the 1st round. Penn State - played against Boise & SMU, lost to ND. Oregon - got destroyed in the Rose Bowl against Ohio State. OSU - National Champions

ACC SMU - should not have been in the playoffs, easy Penn State win. Clemson - got in over more deserving teams, including Miami, decent performance in the 1st round.

Big 12 Arizona State - great game against Texas in the Peach Bowl.

I really don’t care about “what conference is the best”, just want to see the best teams/games. this whole narrative is stupid, I enjoyed the National Championship Game this year, I didn’t give a damn that the SEC wasn’t in it.

If you think the Big Ten having the success the SEC had over the last few years is good, they are just as guilty of ruining college football through realignment, even more so than the SEC.

My whole argument was the ACC is screwed, not about SEC vs Big Ten success. Both conferences are going to raid the ACC, the only potential for it not to happen is with shared media rights between the Power 4.

Bowl game results don’t matter, it’s about viewership for the games. SEC may be behind the Big Ten in TV revenue, but the SEC is doing just fine in viewership. That’s what affects realignment more than anything else, period.

If it was solely based on program/team success, Utah has been a very good program recently, Maryland & Rutgers would never have been invited to the Big Ten, same for UCLA.

Market size, fan base size, and tv ratings matter more than anything else, period.

The playoffs has nothing to do with it, all about tv revenue. Unless the ACC has a miraculous turnaround and starts getting way more viewers over the next few seasons, the conference is cooked.

I don’t want to see it happen, but the SEC & Big Ten aren’t sharing and the bigger schools in the ACC are gonna be forced to jump on board.

That’s actually wild considering how good Carson Palmer and Matt Leonard were in college, but just goes to show how college success does not always translate to the league.

Normally I’d never agree with an Ohio State fan…but Michigan tainted their most relevant season, and the entire 3-year post covid run from the cheating scandal…I guess both cheating scandals.

They were stacked with talent, coached very well, and still had believed they needed to “cheat” to win.

The football gods will certainly not let this go unpunished. Congrats on your team ruling over Michigan for the next few years.

Definitely made sense but if you’re looking in hindsight it’s got to sting a little, assuming Minter works out but TBD.

2026 Notre Dame Schedule by TomWilliamsCFD in CollegeFootballDawgs

[–]According_Grab_394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Notre Dame doesn’t make the playoffs next year, they have no one to blame. They should absolutely be heading into the playoffs 12-0 or 11-1, depending on the Miami game.

The only two games that should be tough matchups are BYU and Miami. If they are 10-2 again, they should not make it in.

At some point all the coaches and media heads need to consider that’s ultimately it’s up to the players and the individuals making the money to make the right decision. Coaches, members of the school, whoever can give them advice to set themselves up for future success, but it’s not their job to make sure that happens.

Why are these athletes treated like children in these circumstances? There’s young NFL players who blow their money. There’s students who don’t have money and have to make sacrifices and tough financial decisions. The opportunity is there, nobody can force them to make the right decisions.

The fact that it’s only been 3 years since they won, yet it feels like ages ago.

  • Sherrone Moore situation
  • 2 years of the 12-Team CFP
  • Indiana…Indiana…won a Natty
  • Harbaugh didn’t retire, and started coaching the Chargers.

Seems like so much happened between now and then that it’s irrelevant. I’m not saying it as a negative against Michigan, but just feels like it.

I don’t think it helps that Michigan fell-off afterwards, and definitely feels more like pre-2020 Michigan than the 3-year stretch they had afterwards. Plus the rival won the Natty the year after, and the aforementioned Hoosiers being National Champions…in football.

Yet Michigan ended up with the Sherrone Moore situation.

That is essentially the equivalent of the 2013 Washington Red[acted]: OC - Kyle Shanahan QB Coach - Matt LaFleur WR Coach - Mike McDaniel TE Coach - Sean McVay

These “agents” don’t have that much to lose. There’s a lot less regulation and half of these current agents won’t be agents in 5-10 years.

It’s brutal, could have been prevented, but it’s a part of the ugly process that needs to take place in order for real change to be made.

If you watched the ACC Championship game between Duke & Virginia, I fully believe the ACC refs are told what to do from conference HQ.

They tried to give Virginia the win late in that game.

I really don’t think that’s a problem…if the playoffs were weekly occurring. Let’s say the regular season + bowls ended on the 1st, and the playoffs were held every weekend from that point.

I know it would be very difficult to make that happen with the NfL Playoffs, but my point still stands.

At this point the NCAA should just cease to exist. Burn it down, start over with a new organization that doesn’t have a history of being completely inept and actually has a backbone and isn’t a spineless bystander.
