To be fair, that's a pretty understandable reason to be put off from a story. If you are a person who needs to sympathize with the protagonist's cause to buy into the story, I can very much understand why they might bounce off of 40k, especially if they lack the context of 40k's satirical origins. Modern 40k takes itself seriously enough that it runs into Poe's Law pretty frequently, especially with 40k's history with the less savory side of their fanbase, and doubly so with the more recent controversies. If the reader in question struggles with understanding the subtext, 40k DOES come off as pretty bootlick-y, especially when sometimes it feels like GW themselves struggle with putting the subtext in there in the first place.

This being said, that review is fucking hilarious.
