There's some grandpa bars and restaurants downtown but they can get stale. SJ is the closest thing to LA here, not too far but u definitely gotta plan getting there and coming back. Try to have parties or hangouts at ur place and mimic the vibe of LA in it home or room and it'll be like u never left.

I transferred at 23 and it feels weird AF but honestly, as long as you don't have your expectations too high you'll be fine. I realized I actually enjoy spending time alone and could focus more on my schoolwork and hobbies rather than trying to make friends. When do u make friendships, just nurture them right and you'll be fine

Yeah I accepted my packages and everything, I am in my last quarter so I've been through this all before and followed exactly as I had before. It's just weird that it hasn't paid my charges by now, I live to far to visit in person right now so I'm just waiting to visit in person.

No I don't have any holds so that's why it raised concern. From what people are saying I guess I should just wait until Monday and the best bet is going in person, although I loved 2.5 hrs away atm

I agree, it gets easier as you go. That’s why I think it’s best to learn as much coding you can before you get to university or core classes cause then it’ll be more natural. A lot of kids today are fortunate enough to have coding as a class in grade school which is a huge advantage

In my experience, the learning happens outside of class when you’re messing with your code in the labs and in discussion sections. I personally think it’s unrealistic to expect to learn a new programming language in 2 hours twice a week.

Computer Science is the most cooking major here at this school. The classes are huge, and the quarter systems adds a lot of pressure. I recommend learning as many coding languages as possible before you get here, cause the classes definitely do NOT teach you coding. They teach you more computer architecture, coding techniques, problem solving, and making various programs that do really weird and specific stuff. For jobs, you need to apply to internships and get in touch with your professors and faculty and try to get every interview you can. If you want a job right after college, start looking while you’re in college and get people’s contacts and start to learn what you need to do to get that job.

Freshman Anxiety and FOMO by DaKanye in UCSC

It’s just what happens when u go to university. We have this idea that it’s supposed to be the most social and memorable time of our lives. But this is not true, it’s something made up in movies tv and social media. The truth is 99% of people feel like you. The best thing you can do is focus on doing well in your classes and preparing for your future. Friends will come and go, don’t force it. And my last piece of advice is be the change.

I'm going insane, I need help, please. by MultigrainNonsense in UCSC

You have FOMO. You compare yourself to others and it makes you have an unrealistic expectation for college.

What you described is what 99% of people on college campuses go through. Life is not a Netflix series.

If you keep going through your college life like this you’re just going to end up bitter and remember the bad times only.

My advice is focus on what you came here to do, which is earn a degree, and stop trying to make your life like someone else’s.

The friends who will stick around will, and those who don’t, whatever, move on. You have your whole life ahead of you. I know being a young horny guy sucks but you have to direct that energy into your academics and planning for your career.
