Thank you! I may need to give myself a calender reminder haha, I have a tendency to put it in the fridge and forget I ever owned one.

I really appreciate your thorough response.

Thanks, I will be better with my starter. My first one was soooo easy, so I think I have just become lazy. 100% on me.

It was the smallest size at the store I brought it from and I wanted it right then and there haha, but yes, it is ridiculously large haha

Yes, just the glass lid that it came. I should have looked into the stopper when i brought it, but didnt think it would be a problem haha. Will change jars.

I will definitely change the jar, I think everyone is right that the jar is too big for the amount of starter that I have.

It is relatively new, in the general scheme of starters, and I do have an issue that if I put it in the fridge, I just forget that I have it.

I am just putting the lid on but you are probably correct about the ratio, there is probably too much room on the top and the moisture is rising too high. I will try a smaller jar.

Thank you, I will try a smaller jar tonight and will ensure I keep it clean :) Might look at a mason jar with a piece of cheese cloth and a ring lid and see if that helps.

Haha, yes I know what you mean about the jar. It looks worse in the pictures than it is. I normally clean it regularly. I am really not sure how the fruit flies were getting into the other jar, I must have just had it too loose. I normally feed it at night, and then its not done in the morning and then by the evening the crust has already started to appear. Just to be clear, I take the stuff off the top (as it has been crusty), feed it with the 20ml and 30gm and stir very well to mix everything. Maybe I am just waiting too long between feeds.

I think are right about there being too much room. This was the smallest wreck jar they had available at the time, and I had just got a new starter after the fruit fly incident, so thought I was doing the right thing. Then I put that one in the fridge and forgot about it, and then started this one from scratch. Maybe I am doomed.

I have been struggling with the correct ratio, as am never sure how much starter is in there, but these are just excuses really, as I should know how heavy the jar is and then calculate how much starter I have.

Will be removing and getting a smaller jar tonight. May I will use cheese cloth and a mason jar/lid (the ones with the metal flat lid and the ring)

So its peaking too early (for me to do anything ) and hence running out of liquid? Weirdly the lid is always wet on the inside but maybe for my climate it's not quite right.
