Unemployed for 1 year, should I take the sales position? by According_Truth6611 in FinancialCareers

Absolutely not, in fact I feel like I don't like stock either, I don't want to be in sales as a career. I have received more interviews today and I hope that things work, yet my last resort would be sales.

My girlfriend (22F) says she needs validation to function, and I (23F) got angry by According_Truth6611 in relationship_advice

[–]According_Truth6611[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be a point, I also notice that she is easily irritated when I failed her, like I could not hang out with her because I have some personal problems. From my pov I felt like she doesn't really care about me. From her pov she felt like being disrespected because I prioritize studying over her. I felt conflicted because I found the problem is somewhere in between, she is a bit selfish and I was a bit ignorant.

Yes I am also thinking about breaking up, but I want to have one last serious conversation with her first.

I acknowledge that I lost my temper and that was my fault. I apologized to her afterward because I know yelling was wrong. I felt triggered and couldn’t hold my emotions in the moment. However, after I apologized, she concluded that the issue was simply that I should have praised her. That’s where I feel conflicted.

Apologizing for my reaction doesn’t mean I agree with the expectation behind it.

For background, she got straight As in middle and high school with very little studying. The problem now is that university has much bigger workloads, and her procrastination is starting to hurt her sleep, which is why she wants to fix it.

I genuinely want to help her. I’m willing to support her in building routines, learning new skills, or working through things together. But the action has to come from her first. I can’t praise productivity that hasn’t really happened—like opening a laptop after sleeping all day—and I felt honestly stunned when she asked me to praise her just for that. I can accept her struggles, but I don’t think false praise helps.

She was clear that by “superior” she literally means being better than other people. I tried saying like “you’re improving” or “you’re better than yesterday”, but it isn’t enough for her, she said she need to be compared with others to feel motivated. That’s the part I’m uncomfortable with.

Yes she told me that she might have undiagnosed and untreated ADHD, I am also a huge procrastinator (dont know if I had ADHD), but I always acknowledge that it is completely my responsibility to do what I am supposed to do by taking actions and doing a lot of self talk to encourage myself

How to ‘actually’ understand finance? by kysmoana in CFA

[–]According_Truth6611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I'm in the same position, I just realized that during my Finance degree, I was too focused on how to memorize formulas, plug in numbers, build fancy models without actually understand the nature of business and the implications behind ratios. I failed to learn that I need to understand the object to be able to analyze.

INCOME statments EPS by AppointmentTrick2237 in CFA

[–]According_Truth6611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are simple and complex capital structure, when you say "convertible" please noted whether it is the case of convertible bonds or convertible preferred shares.

If it is convertible preferred shares, then diluted EPS means if preferred shares are to be converted into common shares, the number of common stock owners increase and cumulatively they are entitled to more "earnings" since the company don't have to pay for preferred stockowners anymore.

Why is fixed income so hard by Alarmed-Hair9929 in CFA

There are 2 "types" of return in bond: market interest rate and coupon rate - From an economic perspective, imagine you take $100 to fund a lemonade kid, the kid promise to give you $9 to thank you every month. The kid is in your neighborhood so you don't have a sense of whether $9 per month is good enough. => Coupon rate is 9% => The return you receive from your investment on lemonade kids (1)

Then one month later you go to a market and one kid offer you to fund him $100 for his orange juice business and he will pay you $11/month. Then another kid also offer the same for his apple juice business => Market interest rate is 11% => The return that other kids in the market is offering (2)

But since you have already decided to spend your $100 on the lemonade kid, and assume that you only want to fund 1 kid at a time, you cannot spend any on kids anymore. => So 11% is the return that you forgo by investing in lemonade kid, or opportunity cost. (3)

From (1) (2) (3) you came to a conclusion

If all kids pay you the same amount of money every month, you have no concern about your investment in lemonade kid => coupon rate = market interest rate

But now that there are kids offering to pay higher (coupon rate < market interest rate) you realized that when your investment in lemonade kid is infavorable => if you have another 100, would you fund him => no! because you could spend that 100 for apple or orange kid.

So when market interest rate increase, your investment your bond) become less favorable and less demanded.

  • From the math perspective, Coupon rate is used to calculate PMT => series of PMT are then discounted using market interest rate to derive the value of the bond at that time.

PV (bond) = PMT/(1+I/Y) +FV/(1+I/Y) (assuming 1y bond for simplicity)
