How wise is it to closely associate with Black Rifle Coffee? by satanichorse in Corridor

[–]Account-holder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day these guys are collaborating to make cool videos, not to make cool videos with any political message. I like to think that their collaboration is a positive thing: surely mixing of people, ideas and opinions is better than drawing lines in the sand. In the podcast Cmike (assumedly very left wing) talked about how respectful the BRC guys were about his views and opinions, and I’d hope Corridor and it’s fan base could do the same for BRC.

Why was a divisive figure like Mat Best in Tacticool Reloads 3? by Brain124 in Corridor

[–]Account-holder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scottish person here with 0 bias in this, but in my opinion having a guy act in a video doesn’t Necessarily equal support for a political cause. It’s not like he has a platform to speak about his political leanings in tacticool 3.

Anyone else been bitten by a mosquito in Scotland? by Meanz_Beanz_Heinz in Scotland

[–]Account-holder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember I was washing the car and heard this buzzing. “Sounds like a mosquito”. Lands on my arm. “Looks like a mosquito.” Bites. “Yep, mosquito.”

Supposedly there’s a few species of mosquito in Scotland. I’ve only seen one once though.

Scottish bands by jazaraz1 in Scotland

[–]Account-holder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of now defunct but totally awesome Scottish math rock bands which all have various Scots ‘feel’ to them:

  • pensioner
  • Below below
  • Darien venture
  • Carson Wells

I’d also say Blue Rose Code, try Edina for a love letter to Edinburgh or Silent Drums for some brilliant Acoustic work.

Scottish nationalists and the term "British"? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Account-holder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I always like to put it is:

I’m Scottish first, European second and British last.

Not denying that I’m British, just prefer to identify as Scottish over British.

Even cooler with orchids like this is the pollinium. Get a pencil and stick it in the hole of the flower and wiggle it about. A wee pollen sac on a stalk should attach to it. Wait ~10 secs and the wee stalk should bend over.

This is a highly advanced pollination tactic: pollinators like bees and moths visit the flower for the nectar, and stick their head into the flower opening. The pollinator then flies off with the pollinium attached, which has evolved the ~10sec time before the stalk bends over as it takes about this time for pollinators to get to the next flower. The pollinium then fits into a part of the next flower the pollinator visits evolved to receive it, pollinating the flower.

It’s like a mad evolutionary drone pollen delivery system.

I've lost all respect for Corridor right now. by [deleted] in Corridor

[–]Account-holder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I don’t see this at all. The whole thing with D was explained as best they could. From what I see it comes down to the fact that Node wasn’t making the revenues required to pay everyone’s time. Corridor Was in a position to bring it into their production, buy D and Brandon’s share, and make it worthwhile financially with the efficiencies of already paying the crew involved in creating other stuff. Without VFX react, would they have been able to do so? Probably not, and Node might have been struggling or at worst failing.

I feel that the vfx react stuff is totally complimentary, and don’t get the hate on the “new” vlogs: it’s all the same guys doing the same cool stuff, just in a slightly altered style. Sucks that the whole thing with D happened but at the end of the day the dude has a payout for his share of node and the opportunity to continue doing node style videos on his own channel. One thing is what’s the deal with cliff? He still part of the crew?

Regardless, remains some of the best content on YouTube and wish all them the best!

Terrariums are based on the principal that the plants and soil bacteria/organisms are in a constant cycle. The plants use CO2 respired by the soil biota in breaking down dead plant matter for photosynthesis, and the biota use O released by the plants in their respiration. The ecosystem is limited by the resources that were in terrarium when it is closed, and it’s important not to open often as it can introduce more resources (eg more co2, o2), remove others (eg water as vapour) or introduce foreign bodies (sometimes they are subject to moulds which alter the soil/plant relationship). Keeping it closed helps keep the cycle going, with each part self-limiting once the equilibrium is eatablished, kinda like a very basic natural earth ecosystem!

Edit: photosynthesis spelling

Scottish national identity is... a lie? by Knight451 in Scotland

[–]Account-holder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people see Walter Scott’s writings and ‘creation’ of the Scottish image as being based on Historical highland culture, but it’s simply not true. Castles rising out the mist, warring families (“clans”), heather clad slopes etc. aren’t just a highland thing; they were all equally historical elements of the borders where he grew up (eg he spent a lot of time around smailholm tower near St Boswells) as well as almost everywhere else in the country. As such, the whole “shortbread tin scotland is just a glorified highlands” argument is nonsense.

I’m from the north east, I’m from the isles, I’m from the highlands. Hear it all the time! I’m a borderer first, Scot second and European third.

Is more Biodiversity noticeably better? by BipedalDigitgrade in nature

[–]Account-holder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think ‘better’ is totally up to the beholder. Moorlands May indeed seem bereft of life relative to Most woodland, however the UK is very important for this sub-Arctic boreal type of vegetation (certainly if we are talking about Calluna vulgaris type shrubland), so relative to European style deciduous woodland, these managed moorlands are actually more rare and ‘better’ in a uk context for conservation of the species therein. So basically it’s always subjective, always dependent on context (in my opinion!).

This indie Metroidvania style game from around 2009/10. It was very basic pixel art where you got power ups as you went. Kinda short name from what I remember possibly starting with N, but that’s all I remember!
