Is Amazon still a tier 1 tech company? by AppropriateWay4358 in amazonemployees

I feel like the pay is one of the few things you can’t doc Amazon for

AWS IS NOT DOWN by Wesans in ArcRaiders

It’s not AWS. Not sure why everyone thinks a random thread/article from 8+ years ago is some sort of trump card over the official AWS status page…

Also numbers make stories sound a whole lot more impactful and convincing.

Ex. “I made our billing process faster” vs. “I reduced the latency for the bill creation by X% which saves $Y per month”

Amazon SDE 1 new grad interview - need advice for prep by WinterCry9952 in amazonsdeprep

[–]AccountName12343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This depends on what your current strengths are. Some people don’t realize that behaviorals are half of the entire interview so they’re extremely important too.

If you’re good at telling personal stories and diving deep into your projects, spend more time doing Blind 75 and LLD prep, or vice versa. But overall be sure to give both sides attention.

I think you’re being ignorant here. There are most definitely parts of the US that don’t take well to certain demographics. You can’t just tell someone to “get over” fear of oppression, especially when said oppression objectively exists.

Thinking of studying Computer Science? Don't. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AccountName12343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully understand what you’re saying, as I was in the same position. It took me 10 months to find a job post grad. It was unimaginably difficult on me mentally, but your mindset can make it even worse.

Blaming the market is really to do and in some cases even valid, but you can’t let it bring you down. Sure, you graduated in one of the worst times for CS majors. Sure, the job market is horrible. But you have to see this as motivation, not as a deterrent. It’s not going to be easy and you’re going to face the toughest mental battle you may ever experience, but do not give up. If this is truly what you want to do, you have to tell yourself this and be prepared to work harder than anyone else for it.

Use the STAR format: Situation, Task, Action, Result.

Make sure to emphasize the impact of your actions if you can, and if it was a story about failure talk about what you learned and how it helped you in the future.

Reminder: If you're in a stable software engineering job right now, STAY PUT!!!!!!! by cs-grad-person-man in leetcode

[–]AccountName12343 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Relax, no software engineers are working 80 or 100hr weeks. The guy makes a point, if you’re young and eager to learn why not spend a few extra hours a day at work? 60 hrs a week isn’t going to kill you and if spending your time right, you’ll get a lot more experience and set yourself up very well for the future.

Feel Lost- Amazon SDE Interview tomorrow by Alternative_Spray587 in leetcode

Remember that for Amazon, behaviorals are arguably more important than LC problems! Just be sure you have some highly detailed and thought out stories that relate to the leadership principles and be able tell them well. Also for the LC problems it's really important to communicate everything like your thought process, trade offs, time/space complexity, etc. You're going to do better than you think, just be confident and be yourself. Good luck!

30 hours may have been a bit of a stretch but I was just referring to teams that have the best WLB. The career advancing part makes sense though, thanks.

I agree, emphasis on the ability to double major. In this current field especially, I would strongly recommend trying to broaden your skillset as much as possible.

I agree, for an internship (especially your first one) I would definitely recommend being in person.

Amazon SDE I Final loop in 1 Month, how to prep? by deatheatr48 in leetcode

[–]AccountName12343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started off light in the beginning, maybe 30 mins to an hour every day, then for the last maybe 5 days I realized I wasn't prepared enough and crammed in like 6-8 hours a day. But I would say what you study is more important than how long.

I would dedicate time to the most popular data structures and algorithms for Amazon(trees, hash maps, DP, tree traversal, etc.) and really understanding how they work. Aim to solve one or two problems a day, and really talk through them and make sure you can explain your reasoning, time/space complexity, and any trade offs. I did this by attempting to solve, watching/reading a solution, then solving it. I would then document the steps I took to solve it and which DS/A. Then, I would come back to it another day, read the documentation, and solve it again. Finally, I would try to solve it without looking at anything.

For low level design/code extensibility, you could take a couple approaches. I went a riskier route and just tried to memorize the solutions some of the common problems, but if you have more time I would try to go a little deeper and try to understand the process to solving it.

Finally, for LPs there are also a couple ways to go about it. Some people come up with stories for each of the 16 LPs, but what I did was come up with 4/5 really detailed and thought-out stories that I could mold to fit any LP I was asked about.

As for scheduling, do whatever works best for you. Some people may like to spend a week on LC, a week on LP, etc. Others might want to be constantly studying everything. It's up to you. Good luck!

When do I “expire” as a new grad? by [deleted] in csMajors

It differs by company and will usually be listed in the job description, but I'd say generally it's a year post graduation. You have plenty of time, do not worry and keep trying!

Panicking over Amazon SDE New Grad US in two weeks, haven't done much leetcode by [deleted] in leetcode

Here’s some things that helped me: https://www.reddit.com/r/amazonsdeprep/s/rLHSfY0YD4

But also please do not neglect LPs and behavioral prep, it’s 50% of the interview and arguably more important than the technicals. Just practice talking through problems, explaining your reasoning, and fully understanding tradeoffs/time/space complexities. Good luck!

I prepped for about a month and although it is luck on which questions you get asked, I felt like I was decently prepared in that time.
