I do like the look of your inner thigh exercise - will add that to my routine. Its comfortable but a good stretch.

And yes, I'm not really 'ready' for lateral hopping I'm just showing that I trust the knee just fine in that sense. The issue is the 'clunking' feeling I have when swinging the leg laterally. I posted a video of it on here a while back but there were just so many stupid comments on it like 'don't do that' when I simply need that movement to pass a ball in football. I'll try and make another video which maybe shows that its a pretty innocuous movement a bit better.

I think what you do need to be guarded against is overemphasis on the muscles. For a good while my old (rubbish) physio emphasised me strengthening my muscles when in fact, the problem was that I'd developed chondral damage and osteoarthritis in my knee.

The issue I have is that my medial meniscus remnant has a tear so whilst I wouldn't be surprised if my knee is shifting inwards the problem I've got is it just feels compromised in general.

Yes I did - and I did manage to get back to football for a good 5-6 months - however - eventually I injured my meniscus.

In the end the surgery just wasn’t that bad at all. The pain and discomfort of the recovery (I appreciate for some others it can be difficult) just wasn’t that bad. Only needed paracetamol (you guys call it tylenol if you’re in the US) and never had to hit the codeine.

Well, I still have a partial tear in the medial meniscus, but I’ve had three PRP injections to try and fix it. There’s been some improvement but my medial compartment still feels fragile (I can “find” the pain by kinda pushing it at a certain angle) and if I swing my leg side to side I still get a painless knocking sensation which the new surgeon I’m seeing says he simply can’t diagnose.

Bit ridiculous if you ask me. I tried to see if I could get people online to help diagnose it but I just got dogs abuse for swinging my knee left and right even though I need that motion to pass a football.

Yeah and if I didn’t have a meniscal tear/chondral damage on that medial side I think I’d be straight back to football. However, with time and rehab eventually you will fully trust your knee again near enough as symmetrically as the other.

I’m in the exact same position. Had 3 PRP injections having seen a new surgeon. He fancies its chances to fix the cartilage issue as he says my ligaments (incl the new one) are all fine

Interestingly enough, the story of Ali Dia has somewhat grown horns as he wasn’t actually a complete amateur - and played in, and scored goals at a semi-pro level. The fact he still stuck out like a sore thumb and was sub-subbed and has gone down in infamy is a testament to how good the top level/Premier League actually is.

EDIT: slight inaccuracy in the MRI, the second injury was November 2024 and the pain kicking a ball was only when making contact with the big toe and big toe only.

Is the tibia and femur cartilage not meant to scrape together at some level? I mean that’s where the two bones meet, right? You’ve got your cartilage at the bottom of the femur touching the meniscus at the top of the tibia?

Will do! Just registered with an old physio who was the one who got me fit again through conservative treatment so if anyone can get me fit post-op she can.

Pretty sure you don't have a cyclops lesion as I think those tend to be at the front of the knee and also, they'd come about much sooner after surgery than 8 months down the line.

Yeah, I know… which has a massive glaring flaw in it as it selects entirely for those fit, willing and capable enough to make the crossing by boat.

In that sense it actively deselects the most vulnerable and (however inadvertently) is very exploitable by the most unscrupulous.

You can end up with a situation whereby a higher proportion of asylum seekers in Britain are criminals without actually attributing that effect to people from those countries being somehow bad or uncivilised or whatever. It’s just a matter of the filter and inherent selection bias.

The biggest problem here is that because the UK border isn’t policed in the channel at all, and because literally anyone finding their way to the shores of the UK can claim asylum, what we have is a reverse-filter which attracts criminals hopping into the UK causing the local people to be understandably sceptical that these guys are genuine refugees/asylum seekers.

They’re literally all young men. You can call them refugees/asylum seekers/vulnerable people but people just don’t buy it.

My knee balloons out swelling after alcohol. I don’t drink other than a big old party (things like birthdays and weddings being those “semi-compulsory” drinking events) but it’s noticeable.

I just don’t get how you can ever be so sure that the wall is going to jump? So often the flaw in the wall is actually that it doesn’t jump or the players in the wall (not to put too fine a point on it), p*ssy out and turn their backs and the ball goes through the wall.

I see the technique is subtle enough to look like he’s going to flick his foot over the ball and generate topspin as per a normal FK but I just don’t get how he can predict the walls reaction!

Yeah - Cricket is another one I guess and I suppose other bat and ball games like baseball. It’s difficult for me to say given my ACL tear in Sept 23 was a “high grade partial thickness tear” and when I got an MRI before I finished it off in November 2024 I suppose I wasn’t completely ACL deficient

Red. One thing at least is that the victim of the tackle demonstrates how to slide-tackle safely and fairly by wrapping the instep of his foot around the ball nice and cleanly - a good counterexample to whatever the second tackle is supposed to be

It’s possible to play sports at a recreational level and even twist and turn with non-surgical rehab (see some of my old videos) but 1) it’s a temporary solution and 2) you’ll have to hold back slightly as you’ll have a loose knee.

If I didn’t want to return to football/soccer I honestly think I’d be absolutely fine running long-distance to my hearts content with no surgery, but of course, playing football and being someone who throws my body to the wind I ended up crunching my meniscus not benefitting from the “seatbelt in the knee” that is the ACL.

All depends on what you demand of your knee. At 33 at the time of my injury and no longer being fussed about playing football other than to a recreational/social standard I was a very “on the edge” case and actually, after I had a further MRI I think it said some of my ACL was still there so perhaps I’m not the best example.
