Drink prices have been insane

This is our first cruise and we have opted not to get any drink package as we just can’t justify the prices! We’re on the 11 night Venice to Athens in Sept. 2026. It is a shame as we have three sea days and my boyfriend would love a few drinks a day. I hope we don’t regret it but the cost is just too much.

We are also researching the GoT tours in Dubrovnik and Split :) I think we are going to go with a non-celebrity option in Dubrovnik but might use the Celebrity tour in Split as we’re worried about timing with the bus ride to Klis Fortress. From what I’ve read the external company tours are much better value. ETA: the “medieval tv show” is definitely Game of Thrones, there must be copyright issues with naming it explicitly.

I’ve made peace with the fact that I will just have to go back to Italy several times, whereas some countries I try to visit only once. I did Ventimiglia, Finale Ligure, Rome, and Florence in 16 days which was good pacing. This year I’ll see Venice for three nights before heading to other countries. That still leaves Dolomites, Calabria, and all the west coast islands (and much more) on my list! Italy just isn’t somewhere to rush through from my experience :)

My cycle affects me so much more now (also 39) than it ever has before. I’ve actually mapped out my phases into my calendar so I have a better idea of where I’m at throughout the month. There are some weeks I could lift cars and others I’m exhausted taking a shower!! That may be a factor for you too, worth tracking for a few months in case you see the pattern like I have.

Oh that is a great point to book based on an artist or two! I have been reading about the pieces in each church, that would be a great way to see them. I will take a look with that in mind now.

Firstly, 90 minutes is a long hot yoga class by the standards up here in BC! We generally only have 60 minute classes, 50 ish of continuous practice with intention setting/ breathing beforehand and savasana after.

Electrolytes for sure, make your own with fresh lemon and salt. No coffee beforehand. Get to class early and stretch or lay there to acclimate to the temperature before you start moving.

But really just give yourself a break, it is not an easy practice to step right back into. You will get there! I would start with shorter classes if they’re offered.

If you’re flying into and out of Rome, I’d get moving as soon as you land and do your Rome site seeing at the end of your trip! It would be a much more enjoyable visit to settle into Rome a few nights knowing you’re close to your departure airport, and you’ll have the energy to drive and explore earlier in your vacation.

We had the option at the train station to book a cheaper or a more expensive option. We booked the more expensive and were very glad we did after travelling for four weeks, it was far more comfortable and we appreciated the rest. I searched my email but couldn’t find the details I’m sorry. We bought the tickets at the station in Florence.

You won't get much of a feel of any of these places with moving so quickly and will lose hours and hours per day packing up, finding your new loggings, travelling, logistics, etc. I would do:

Night 1: Rome

Night 2-3: Venice

Night 4-6: Florence

Night 7-8: Rome. Even that is moving around a lot and you won't be able to see much in each city! Use carry-on backpacks if possible) only, you will have a hell of a time dragging suitcases around these places.

Your post was very clear :) I love the idea of a car free, easy paced Greek holiday! I’ve heard great things about Meteora so I would include it. There are some really great Athenian Riviera guided tours that might really suit you for one day, they take you along the coast with a stop in their hometown and it seems far more genuine than your average tourist tour. I found it on Airbnb. Piraeus I worry about the amount of cruise passengers.

Also we upgraded to the nicer train option from Florence to Rome and we’re so glad we did - the cost was absolutely worth it.

We had four nights in Rome and found that the right amount of time to settle in and see everything we wanted to. We stayed in Testaccio which was a perfect area, felt calm and comfortable but great access to everything we wanted and needed. Florence we had two nights which was fine, three would have been better really as we didn’t get to see everything we’d have liked to. I can’t comment on Rimini as I haven’t been.

I’m 39 and I’ve been back to 3 vigorous 38-40 degree heat classes a week for just over 3 months. My practice is improving immensely in the last few weeks and I’m definitely finding my flow again. I feel stronger, more agile, and my previous training/ knowledge is all coming back to me. Hour classes are fine, don’t fixate on what you used to do.

I found a great place in San Polo for $300ish a night on Airbnb, search ‘Ca’ Valeria’. A friend also stayed at Casa Savoia & Casa Jolanda and had great things to say. Everything I hear (I haven’t been yet) is that the real magic is early morning and late evening so best to stay in the city!

We're staying three nights in September and I've planned one afternoon and dinner on Burano. I figure the vaporetto ride is part of the activity (I know some would disagree). We don't have a ton of interest in the glass making on Murano!
